The Disney World theme parks have officially reopened, but the resort still has a way to go before it’s fully back in business.
Though many Disney Vacation Club resorts reopened back in June, we’re still patiently waiting for the reopening of the other Disney World resort hotels. Well, it seems like we’ll need to wait a little longer for some. Disney has officially DELAYED the reopenings of several Disney World resorts.
Disney has released a statement that opening dates do remain subject to change due to the fluidity of the global health crisis. This has gone into effect with Disney’s Polynesian Village Resort, Disney’s Art of Animation Resort, Disney’s Beach Club Resort, and Disney’s BoardWalk Inn.
Initially, Polynesian Village Resort and Art of Animation Resort were set to reopen on August 12th. Now, the Polynesian has a set date of October 4th, and Art of Animation will reopen on November 1st. Though Beach Club and BoardWalk were supposed to reopen August 24th and October 1st respectively, they have now both been removed from the reopening calendar.
For those with reservations that are affected by the change of date, Disney states they will contact guests with options available to either modify their reservation to another Disney Resort hotel at no additional cost or cancel their reservation without any Disney-imposed fees.

Nooooooo!!!! We had reservations for September 5 at the Boardwalk😠I suppose I should call. What a mess.
Wendy N Box says
You state Disney said “you may update or modify at no additional cost”. I can’t find that statement on Disney’s website. We had to switch to AOA, but now need to switch again—family of six here. We didn’t have to pay to upgrade to AOA, I’m just worried that we’ll have to because our only options are delux villas!
ken says
oh, that is too bad. Living in the local area, my wife and I loved to dine at some of the hotels on a regular basis. O’hana had been one of our favorites for over 30 years. I can only be thankful that their are many other dining opportunities on property to take advantage of.
Kelsey says
We have room reservations in both the beach club villas and then the Poly bungalows!! August 20-26 does it apply to these rooms? Thanks for the updates.
This is so heartbreaking!
Susan says
Will Stormalong Bay be opening up with Yacht Club on 8/24?
Rita says
Aren’t the professional basketball and soccer players staying at the Grand Floridian, Beach Club and Yacht Club during their fan free seasons? Professional players and their families can stay but not anyone else. This lack of transparency regarding resort occupancy is concerning and disappointing.
Mark says
Not a surprise. We went out to the tourist area on Friday and there were just no tourists out and about. I’ve never seen it this quiet in the 15 years I’ve lived here.
Brian says
Can you attempt to get a better explanation of the status of Port Orleans? It is probably Disney’s most popular moderate resort and they have been completely mum on it’s status. Seems like they are holding it and pressing the more expensive resorts for reservations. Thanks for all your hard work gathering information for us.
Nicole says
Do you have a current list of all the resorts currently open and the dates for the ones that have them??
Virgil Speroni says
It doesn’t specify as to if the BWV and BCV are delayed. It does mention that some DVC hotels have opened, but doesn’t say if it is the VC parts of the Hotel, or the ENTIRE Hotel
Jon Woll says
Just sharing my recent re-scheduling ordeal which turned out pretty decent.
We had reservations initially for Oct 2020 at Wilderness Lodge, but decided to push that back a year. In that process we had to re-book at The Polynesian for Sept of 2021 because The Wilderness Lodge wasn’t slated to even be open for sure yet by October of 2021. However, we couldn’t book The Polynesian for Oct 2021. We have to call back, suggested Jan 2021, to check if Oct dates we’re available. I attribute this to Oct being the official 50th anniversary and probably subject to price changes, etc. But, as of a week ago, we couldn’t book The Wilderness Lodge for anything Sept 2021 or earlier.
Melissa says
Our trip is planned for October 16, 2020 & we have reservations at the Beach Club. I’m a little confused because I saw a video that a blogger posted at the Boardwalk & there were people in the pool. I assumed they were open already. I also heard mention that storm along bay would not be open and that guests would have to use the Luna park pool at boardwalk, do you have any idea if they will open Storm along bay when the beach club opens? My husband wants to cancel but I’m holding out hope!!
DFB Sarah says
Melissa, currently BoardWalk and Beach Club DVC are open, so these dates that were changed today reflect changes for the rest of the Resorts. Stormalong Bay is, indeed, closed to guests staying in the DVC section of Beach Club (the Villas). We won’t know anything about the pool opening until Disney says something. We’ll update when they do!
DFB Sarah says
Nicole, Disney’s official info is here.
Ted Atchley says
We just rebooked our September trip. We were going to be at AoA, but now we’re at the Cabins at Fort Wilderness.
DFB Sarah says
Virgil, BoardWalk and Beach Club Villas are currently open.
DFB Sarah says
Brian, we are really limited to what Disney releases for information or what Cast Members tell us when we ask them onsite. As for the Resort reopenings, we’ve just got what’s online, really. We will update if/when we get more info!
DFB Sarah says
Susan, so far it’s still listed as not open during “the initial reopening”. We will have to wait to see if that changes by 8/24.
DFB Sarah says
Kelsey, DVC is still fine, as far as we know.
DFB Sarah says
Wendy N. Box, we saw that alert when we looked at the affected Resorts on disneyworld.com (on laptops and mobile devices) under “Places to Stay”.
Kelsey says
Thanks so much!
Spoke with Disney this morning and yes we are good to go for our August 20-26th vacation. Beyond thankful.
Our BCVilla and Then the Poly Bungalows are still reserved. So sorry for anyone who has to cancel or move reservations. Thank u DFB!
Diana says
I’m confused by this in regards to Boardwalk and Beach Club. We just stayed at the Boardwalk last week. Does the reopening apply to the hotel side because obviously the DVC side is open.
DFB Sarah says
Diana, that’s correct.
DFB Sarah says
Happy for you, Kelsey!
Cindy says
We had Coronado Springs Sept. 4-12, cancelled by Disney but upgraded to Beach Club. Now, the Beach Club is not opening in August, so we’ve been sent to the Yacht Club. These are nice upgrades, but I wonder where we’ll be if the Yacht Club fails to open on schedule?
Jennifer says
Is there a list of restaurant/food options available while staying at the Boardwalk area? Just got moved from Beach Club to Yacht Club and wondering with the BW and BC staying closed what is going to be available for food. More of a resort stay than park trip so non Epcot places. Thanks!
DFB Sarah says
Jennifer, if you scroll way down on this page, you’ll find the listing of what’s open at BoardWalk.
Rhonda says
I am assuming that once the Poly opens, O’hana should open as well? Or is that just wishful thinking? Our trip is in November.
DFB Sarah says
Rhonda, hard to say. The other restaurants at Polynesian Village Resort are already open, so we’re just waiting on ‘Ohana. We will update as soon as we know anything new.
Rebecca says
Any rumors on when AKL Jambo House opening?? We are staying in Saratoga Springs resort at then end of October and we really wanted to make reservations for dinner at Jiko.
DFB Sarah says
Rebecca, still no word, as far as I know.
