Disney’s Caribbean Beach Resort recently reopened at Walt Disney World — the first of the Moderate resorts to reopen since the closure earlier this year. With its centralized location and relaxing island vibe, this resort sets a calypso tone for a vacation within a vacation.
Disney’s Caribbean Beach Resort is a sprawling resort with lush tropical landscaping, a colorful theme, and a variety of recreational activities. The centerpiece of the resort, Barefoot Bay, is a 45-acre lake surrounded by a mile-long promenade dotted with running trails and small white sandy beaches. Although swimming is not permitted, there are hammocks where you can lounge after a day in the parks and watch the beautiful Florida sun set each evening.

Our friends at Small World Vacations have been working tirelessly to help their guests prepare for their Disney vacations and keep them up-to-date on the changes at Walt Disney World, and today they’re sharing what you need to know when planning your Disney World vacation at Disney’s Caribbean Beach Resort!
Guest Rooms at Disney’s Caribbean Beach Resort
Guest rooms are nestled into five villages that are situated around the shores of the Barefoot Bay. The villages are named after Caribbean islands (natch) — Trinidad, Barbados, Martinique, Aruba, and Jamaica. Rooms feature two Queen beds, a King bed, or two Queen beds and a child-size pull down bed, and can accommodate up to five guests depending on the bedding options.
If your little pirates are on the hunt for some swashbuckling action, check out the Pirate-themed rooms in the Trinidad section. Between the nautical details and pirate ship-shaped beds, you’ll be immersed in your own tropical adventure.
Old Port Royale, Dining, and Activities
The spirit of the Caribbean is alive and thriving at Old Port Royale, the resort’s main building. This “port of entry” is where guests check in, and is the hub for dining and shopping options.
Centertown Market is the resort’s quick service dining location. Currently, guests will find physical distancing markers in areas where guests may need to queue and directional arrows to help keep traffic moving smoothly in the quick service dining spot.
Sebastian’s Bistro is the resort’s table service restaurant. Currently, Sebastian’s Bistro remains closed. Guests can also enjoy quick service dining at Spyglass Grill located in the Trinidad Village area. Spyglass Grill also remains closed at the resort.
You can pick up souvenirs and supplies at Calypso Trading Post.
Just a few steps away from Old Port Royale, you’ll find Banana Cabana, an open air pool bar and favorite among adult guests. At this relaxed and friendly hangout, you can enjoy quick eats and specialty cocktails. Banana Cabana is currently open, and guests will find QR codes for the menu and social distancing signage.
This resort boasts six quiet pools, plus a main feature pool that many consider one of the best on Disney property. A Spanish citadel architecture features water cannons, zero-depth entry, and a little kids’ shipwreck play area where a barrel periodically dumps a deluge of water. Older kids can climb a spiral staircase to the top of a turret for an 82-foot trip down the larger slide and through the fortress wall!
Why You’ll Want to Stay at Caribbean Beach This Year
Disney’s Caribbean Beach Resort has a special feature that no other Disney resort can claim – its very own island, Caribbean Cay. On this tropical oasis, you’ll discover picnic tables, hammocks, play areas, covered swings and walking paths.
While Caribbean Cay is open to guests currently, the playground area for the kids is closed.
Skyliner at Caribbean Beach
Disney’s Caribbean Beach Resort is a main hub for the Disney Skyliner with transportation to Disney’s Hollywood Studios, EPCOT, Disney’s Art of Animation Resort, Disney’s Pop Century Resort, and Disney’s Riviera Resort.
Currently, only one traveling party (up to 10 people) is permitted per cabin, and running times have adjusted according to the opening times for the theme parks. Caribbean Beach is the only moderate hotel that offers an alternate to bus transportation to the theme parks.
Right next door to Disney’s Caribbean Beach is Disney’s Riviera Resort, the newest Disney Vacation Club Resort.
While Caribbean Beach Resort guests cannot pool hop here, they do have access to other select amenities – including the European inspired dining options at this upscale property. Topolino’s Terrace – Flavors of the Riviera is a breathtaking rooftop dining experience and is one of only two character dining experiences currently available on Disney property.
Disney has created a recipe for a fantastic Disney Vacation – just combine some island vibes, tropical eats and drinks, a chill hangout, lush landscaping, Skyliner gondola rides, toss them in a blender and give it a good mix…you have the specialty resort of the day: Disney’s Caribbean Beach Resort.
The Downsides…
But there ARE a few downsides to choosing Disney’s Caribbean Beach Resort. First, be aware that the hotel buildings do not have elevators. If you have any mobility issues in your party — or huge strollers, lots of luggage, or anything else that could make it difficult to traverse one or two flights of stairs — be sure to request a first floor room!
Second, the resort is HUGE. So if you’d like to be close to a skyliner station or the main food locations, be sure to note those requests when you book, or call the hotel five days before you arrive to make sure the requests are noted.

Although my recent visit to the resort was my first, I sincerely hope it will not be my last. Supposedly nothing is perfect, but my three days at the resort certainly came close. The room was well appointed, comfortable, and offered a spectacular view of both the pool area and the ocean. The front desk personnel were patient, courteous, and friendly. That’s the personal touch that I found so great about the hotel and staff. I’ve visited St. Simons many times, but always stayed in rental units. After this wonderful stay, next time will again be at the Resort.
