UPDATE: Since this post was originally written, the Rise of the Resistance Boarding Group process has changed quite a bit. Guests can currently grab a boarding group at 7AM and 1PM. To try for a pass at 7AM, guests no longer have to be in Disney’s Hollywood Studios. You can grab a pass from anywhere as long as you and your party have a Park Pass Reservation for Hollywood Studios. For the 1PM slot, guests must be in the park to get a pass.
What’s more difficult — getting a Boarding Group for Star Wars: Rise of the Resistance or getting Splash Mountain merchandise?
Seriously, it may be more difficult to get Splash Mountain merchandise at this point, but getting a Boarding Group for Rise of the Resistance can be quite the endeavor. We recently got confirmation, though, of a new change that makes it WAY easier for guests traveling with friends or family to get a boarding group.
If you’re trying to get a Boarding Group for Rise of the Resistance there are a few important steps you’ve got to follow. First, you and every member of your party wanting to ride the attraction must have already entered Disney’s Hollywood Studios. You will also want to make sure that you are all linked together on My Disney Experience. To read our tips to get a Boarding Group click here!
You’ll need to ask to join a Boarding Group at the the appropriate time. Right now, you can request to join a Boarding Group at 10AM and 2PM.
Then, in the past, you had to manually select everyone in your travel party that wishes to ride. Once you’ve done that, you can click on “Join Boarding Group” again to be (hopefully) randomly assigned a Boarding Group.
When you’re trying to grab a Boarding Group though, every second counts! So, if you’re traveling in a large party , having to manually add a lot of friends and family members to your group can take up some precious time! But now, a change is making things MUCH easier.
We spoke to a Cast Member today who confirmed that anyone eligible from your friends and family to obtain a boarding group at the time you’re requesting one will be automatically selected as part of your party. That means, you won’t have to manually check their names when you’re forming your group on My Disney Experience.
Keep in mind though, to be eligible, a person must have a valid ticket and Park Pass reservation for Hollywood Studios on that date, and must already be inside the park (meaning they already scanned their ticket or MagicBand at the entrance and walked into the park). Also remember that you and your friends and family must be linked on My Disney Experience in order to get a boarding group for everyone in the party. Your friends can’t automatically be added to your party if you aren’t linked to each other on My Disney Experience.
This is an awesome update that will hopefully make it easier for larger groups to snag a Boarding Group and ride Rise of the Resistance. Can’t make it to Disney World right now to hop on the attraction yourself? Then click here to get a virtual ride-through experience!

Wish they had made this change back in March when I was there with 11 others.
Dene' Carter says
Yay! Couldn’t get 3 of us in July… wasn’t looking forward to trying for 9 in December!
Daniel says
Hate to be a negative Nate, but the boarding groups were gone in THREE SECONDS when we went last week. Not sure this will help much.
Rinda says
Nope, nope, nope!!
I try all the time. I use all the tips and NEVER get in., never.

This was helpful on the first day we went and entered the parks. We got a pass and rode the ride (which was amazing). However, three days later when we went to Hollywood and tried to get a pass while sitting in one of the rest zones inside the park, it told us the we were not in the park. The Mickey stock turned green when we scanned our bands to enter the park. When we went to guest relations, another family was in there with the same issue. Disney had let us enter the park but then said we never scanned in. Needless to say, either Disney is lying about how many people are truly in the parks or that Mickey stick was seriously broke. (And BTW – Disney did nothing for us. Even though we were in the park and it was their fault.)
Tracey says
So should everyone in your group try to increase your odds?
Philip says
Still not worth the hassleand stress. Rode it once and won’t ride it again until it has a stand by or fast pass queue.
DFB Sarah says
Tracey, you can do that. Whomever gets through first would need to add everyone to the Boarding Group, so make sure everyone knows how to do it.
Debbie says
I’m confused. I thought they changed things and you will be able to join the boarding groups at 7 am from out of the park. Has it changed again?
Amy says
Why are you using such an old story (with old and now inaccurate information) from August and September.?). I am submitting this comment on December 28th from the DFB story I just received.
You can now try to join a boarding queue from your home, hotel room or other places outside Hollywood Studios at 7AM, not 10. And it works, I have done it twice, yesterday being one of them. I live 35 miles away.
And the second time of day you can attempt a reservation (this one from inside the park) is 1PM, not 2PM.
Please stop publishing incorrect/old information!

Tracey and DFB Sarah, when we were there in November, we had a “spot” in the morning (can now book beginning at 7AM) and we lost it because we were signed in at the same time. Was told by a cast member that it tends to cause issues and only one person should be logged in when attempting.
We were able to get a boarding group when we tried again at 2pm.
DFB Sarah says
Christina, thanks for sharing! We haven’t had that experience, but I’ll make a mental note for the future.
DFB Sarah says
Debbie, no, that’s still the rule. We’re updating this post with more recent information.
