While Disney World has now welcomed back guests, Disney’s Aulani Resort in Hawaii currently remains closed.
Earlier this month, Hawaii Governor David Ige extended the state’s 14-day quarantine requirement for out-of-state visitors until October 1st. And with the case numbers in Hawaii on the rise, this could point to a further extension of restrictions — and a potentially lengthy closure for Aulani.
According to The New York Times, Hawaii is now emerging as one of the nation’s COVID-19 hotspots.
While the geographic isolation of Hawaii combined with the state’s mitigation efforts helped to suppress the number of cases for several months, the case numbers in the state have now risen rapidly. In fact, Hawaii now ranks among the states where new cases have grown the fastest in the past 14 days.
A reopening date for Aulani has not yet been announced, but we will continue to keep an eye out for more updates, so stay tuned!

We were scheduled to stay at the Aulani in late June. Based on the restrictions, we rescheduled to July, then again to August, before cancelling. During this time, we followed Hawaii’s news closely. Residents are very divided about eliminating the 14-day quarantine rule. When it is eventually eliminated, it will be replaced with a requirement to provide a negative COVID test taken within 72 hours of your flight. Lots of logistical challenges with that! I think our next visit to Aulani is a ways off…
