In mid-May we shared with you that Kevin Mayer, an executive at The Walt Disney Company, stepped down from his role at Disney to become the chief executive officer at TikTok.
But, just a few months into his role there, Kevin Mayer is leaving TikTok.
Prior to leaving his role at Disney, Kevin Mayer served as the head of the Direct-to-Consumer and International Division, and oversaw projects like the launch of Disney+ and ESPN+.
Earlier this year, Mayer left Disney to become the CEO of TikTok, a short-form video platform. But now, according to TechCrunch, just 100 days after joining the TikTok team, Mayer has resigned.
According to a post from CNBC Now on Twitter, a source told a CNBC reporter that “Mayer quit after being excluded from deal talks between the company and Microsoft & Oracle.” It appears that TikTok may be getting ready to sell all or part of the company. Multiple sources have reportedly told CNBC that “Mayer’s exit indicates that a deal—likely a sale to Microsoft—could come in the next 48 hours.”
This is still a developing story, so we’ll let you know if we hear any updates.

Would love to have been the proverbial “fly on the wall” to have heard the “discussion” about why he was excluded from the talks…as a long-time big corporation guy, the sausage making that happens behind closed doors can be fascinating to watch – if you’re not the one involved!
