We’ve seen lots of spots reopening around Walt Disney World lately.
But others are still closed. We’ve even seen some spots open, close, and then reopen. But we’re particularly surprised that three fan-favorite restaurants have not yet reopened!
We’ve enjoyed lots of food and drinks at a bunch of reopened spots around Disney World including Chef Mickey’s, Grand Floridian Cafe, and Chicken Guy!
But three fan-favorite spots are still closed!
1 — Casey’s Corner
At the end of Main Street, U.S.A. in Magic Kingdom, you’ll find Casey’s Corner — a quick service spot where you can grab some delicious hot dogs and one of our favorites…
…Corn Dog Nuggets! Oh boy, do we sure miss these. There’s nothing quite like taking a seat on some grass in the Magic Kingdom hub, with your corn dog nuggets and cheese, and just taking a moment to soak in the magic.
Casey’s Corner also used to be home to strange but exciting speciality hot dogs, like the Fried Pickle Hot Diggity Dog.
But, the restaurant did not open when Magic Kingdom reopened, and it has been temporarily unavailable ever since. We’re surprised this spot hasn’t reopened yet, because it truly was a popular place to get a quick, but totally satisfying, meal in Magic Kingdom.
With other quick service spots like Cosmic Ray’s Starlight Cafe and Pecos Bill Tall Tale Inn and Cafe open in Magic Kingdom, we’re not sure exactly why this spot has remained closed. The restaurant is definitely smaller in size in the ordering area, and doesn’t have much seating on the inside either. We can see how it would be difficult to maintain social distancing in this tight spot.
But we’d be totally okay with using mobile order exclusively to quickly get some delicious food, and have cast members limit how many guests can enter the space at one time to pick up their meal. Then, we can totally take our treats to a socially distanced spot nearby to enjoy them, even if that means sitting in the grass or on a nearby bench.
We definitely hope Disney finds a safe way to reopen this spot sometime soon, and we’ll be on the lookout for any news about its potential reopening!
2 — 1900 Park Fare
Over in Disney’s Grand Floridian Resort & Spa, we used to be able to enjoy breakfast alongside classic Disney characters like Mary Poppins, Alice in Wonderland, and the Mad Hatter or dinner with Cinderella and Prince Charming from 1900 Park Fare.
Now, we don’t necessarily love the buffet menu that this charming little restaurant serves up, but it’s no secret that many Disney fans love snagging a reservation here to visit with characters and try the legendary Strawberry Soup. However, this spot did not reopen with the resort and is still temporarily unavailable.
What really surprises us about this spot not being open yet is the fact that other resort Character Dining locations have reopened, including Topolino’s Terrace and Chef Mickey’s. So, Disney has been able to do character meals at a distance successfully — they’ve just transitioned from buffet style to all-you-can-eat family-style meals instead.
That being said, Cape May Cafe in Disney’s Beach Club recently reopened WITHOUT the iconic characters that made the meal a bit more special. So, Disney may be piecing together which restaurants physically have enough space to accommodate guests, distanced seating, and character meet and greets. 1900 Park Fare is on the smaller side when it comes to space, so that could be the barrier to reopening here.
Disney has announced that Tusker House Restaurant (another character dining spot in Disney’s Animal Kingdom) will be reopening this summer, so hopefully, we will start to see more character meals return to Disney World soon, including 1900 Park Fare.
3 — ‘Ohana
Last, but certainly not least, is ‘Ohana. ‘Ohana is a table service restaurant in Disney’s Polynesian Village Resort that used to serve both breakfast and dinner. At breakfast, you got the chance to enjoy some favorites, like Mickey waffles, served family-style. Plus, you got to say hello to Lilo, Stitch, Mickey, and other Disney friends.
Dinner was an all-you-can-eat feast featuring grilled meats, chicken wings, Hawaiian speciality sides, and the signature ‘Ohana Bread Pudding for dessert. The servers would come around and serve the grilled meats off of their skewers in the same way that they’d be served at a Brazilian style steakhouse restaurant.
We can practically taste those chicken wings and noodles in our dreams. Getting reservations for this spot was pretty difficult before the parks closed, so we’re surprised it hasn’t yet reopened for its adoring fans.
We’ve seen lots of spots reopen in the Polynesian Resort including Kona Cafe, Captain Cook’s, and, just recently, Tambu Lounge (which is located just next to ‘Ohana). Some Disney restaurants that serve food family-style, like Garden Grill in EPCOT, have also reopened. We’ve also seen restaurants outside of Disney that serve their meat in a similar fashion, like Texas de Brazil, reopen in some places with some modifications.
So, we’re hoping it’s just a matter of time before Disney finds a way that’s safe for both the cast members and the guests to reopen this fan-favorite spot. While Disney’s Polynesian Villas & Bungalows are now open, the Polynesian Village Resort is not set to reopen until late July. We’ll definitely keep an eye out for any news that may signal that ‘Ohana will be opening around that time.
Which of these spots are you hoping reopens soon? We’d love to eat at any of them right now. But, since we can’t, we’ll have to settle for some homemade versions of our favorite treats for now!

We have 3 (fallback) tentative vacations scheduled at WDW for 2021. I’m guessing we’d cancel them all if ‘Ohana hasn’t opened by the cancel dates. That’s my wife’s favorite.
Daniel says
MK Columbia Harbour House
I will be devastated if they’re not open when I get to go.
Stacey says
For Casey’s it may be that their kitchen area is very tiny so cast member social distancing as they work would be impossible? By popularity it should be open so that’s the only reason I can think of.
Beth says
I was so excited to finally get back to Casey’s on our first post-closure trip to MK! I figured it was closed due to the compact dining area. It’s hard to get seats out there on a regular day! When it was really crowded, we would just take our food over to the planter/seating area just before the entrance to Adventureland and eat there. Mobile ordering really does sound like the perfect solution for now. Hopefully they roll it out soon.
Trey says
Any news on when Columbia Harbor House will reopen?
Patrick says
Disney does have a # of needed restaurant / guest count plan in place already. and they probably just extended it downward. Costs them extra $ for opening up extra places vs consolidating the traffic to larger venues. As for Ohanas, there is some similar cost /benefit analysis probably there too. Not all of the MK resorts are open and at near normal capacity so the traffic to come into Ohanas is less, for a more expensive meal without the character interactions as part of the meal.
Denise Cooper says
I wish Chefs du France would reopen in Epcot!
Betty says
I’m surprised Columbia House in Magic Kingdom is not open. They are very popular and have plenty of seating even with social distancing. Maybe some of the products they use to produce their meals is not yet available.
Anna feggaros says
Ohana has to open!!!!! Really n truly missed…..
DFB Sarah says
Trey, unfortunately no word yet.
Gail says
Hoping Chef de France opens soon
Go there every other week for escargot and French onion or lobster bisque
Soup
LMH says
For everyone asking about Columbia Harbor House at MK, it’s currently being used as a cast member break room to accommodate social distancing. So it’s probably not re-opening any time soon.
BILL ANDERSON says
My wife and I are coming to Disney World in October for our 53rd anniversary and wonder if the Garden Tea Room is going to reopen. Does anyone know????
DFB Sarah says
Bill, as far as I know, they haven’t announced a reopening date. But we’ll report if/when they do!
Alex says
One thing we found on our recent trip, the basic casey footlong and chili cheese dog, are being offered at cosmic rays.
And the Westward Ho booth across from pesco bills had the corn dog nuggets Sans cheese sauce.
Michael says
Hi !
Our anniversary is in January and we’re planning a visit , is there any chance O’Hana will reopen by the 17th ?
DFB Sarah says
Michael, no way to know yet, but we will definitely update if any ‘Ohana news is announced!

Maybe some of your loyal patrons who have visited many times from other states would appreciate candid, truthful and helpful answers to questions. How can we plan a 2021 October vacation without this? Just give it straight to us on what we can expect. So very vague for information to plan a later vacation in 2021. Clear , factual , solid information.
