Black Panther lead, Chadwick Boseman, lost his life to colon cancer after a courageous 4-year battle.
The world is grieving the loss of Boseman who was 43 when he passed on Friday. Disney honored the late actor with a special tribute on ABC featuring events and a showing of Black Panther. The View co-host Whoopi Goldberg also stepped forward with a statement on Twitter asking Disney for a new theme park land in honor of Boseman and his Black Panther legacy.
Her statement is as follows: “Dear People in charge of building NEW experiences Disney Land and World we don’t really need another Frozen land BUT what we could use is Wakonda. Please Disneyworld Disneyland PLEASE build in Chadwick Boseman’s name WAKONDA (Sic).”
Construction for the Marvel-themed land, Avengers Campus, is well underway at Disneyland Resort and Disneyland Paris. This land will feature characters and other elements from Black Panther. Goldberg is calling on Disney to create a land specifically for Wakanda, the country featured in the film Black Panther.
While Goldberg doesn’t note a specific project, construction for Arendelle: World of Frozen has started at Disneyland Paris and Hong Kong Disneyland. Walt Disney World also hosts the Frozen Ever After attraction and A Frozen Sing-Along Celebration live show.
Many friends, celebrities, and fans have paid tribute to the legendary actor over the weekend. Goldberg also expressed her condolences and stated that Chadwick Boseman was one of her “all time favorite people on the planet” and that he was a “wonderful actor” and “truly nice man.” Our thoughts and condolences are with Chadwick Boseman’s loved ones.
Wakanda forever.

When the train to Rafiki’s Planet Watch was down for a very long time, I thought they might be putting in a Wakanda area in AK. The fact that the train is there could easily give you the transported feel.

I’d enjoy this idea, after they expand the Africa section in EPCOT. You can blink & miss Africa. One of the largest continents In the world, yet it looks like an afterthought. Africa is a real destination vs Wakanda is fictional.

Because she said it, I definitely vote no.
longtime passholder says
What!!! What does Wakanda have to do with disney?
Pris says
Animal Kingdom is all about Africa. There’s no need for an additional park about the continent.
Mark says
I think that this is a wonderful idea. Wakanda does deserve to be a land.

That would be great since Disney acquired Marvel back in 2019. I would love to see more Marvel in one of the parks. It doesn’t have to be the Magic Kingdom, but the Animal Kingdom could use a bigger draw. Since Star Wars has the Hollywood Studios.

I too am a long time passholder. You asked what Wakanda has to do with Disney? What does Avatar? What do The Avengers? What did Star Wars? Personally I think Wakanda would fit nicely in the Animal Kingdom. I am not a big Superhero fan but after seeing Black Panther last weekend I think it would be an asset. Much of what I loved about Disney and Disney World has been replaced by other things… that’s the nature of life. Some good, some bad. The Star Wars takeover of the Studios should teach people that. I’m not a great fan but others are. That’s ok. A land like Wakanda would hold a great opportunity for all of us to learn from and about others.
Mr. Boseman was a genuine man who lived what he believed and spent his short time on earth giving and trying to make it better. We need much more of that rather than the animosity we now seem to accept as “normal”.
