If you’re like us, you probably fell in love with the idea of Wakanda the first time you saw Black Panther. Turns out, we definitely weren’t the only ones.
Black Panther and Wakanda are super inspiring on several levels, which is part of the reason that star Chadwick Boseman’s passing earlier this week was so saddening. Still, his work ultimately spurred creativity and hope for many of us. Wakanda even inspired one man to decide to construct a real-life Wakanda for a price tag of $6 billion.
The new civilization will be called Akon City and is in development by, you guessed it, R&B singer Akon. Akon City will be built on a site in Senegal to help develop solutions to the fast pace of global changes, economic progress, poverty, and the technology race that is causing issues in the area.
The new civilization will be “futuristic” and will include several districts like a business district, residential districts, an education district, a healthcare district, a media district, and more. One super cool aspect is that the city is set to be a “Smart City.” You know your Smart TV? Like that but WAY bigger. The city will mark the convergence between physical and digital elements and incorporate technologies such as cryptocurrency and solar power.
Overall, it certainly does sound like an absolutely amazing project. According to CNN, Akon just laid the first brick so technically Akon City is officially under construction. We think the concept is super cool so we’ll definitely be keeping an eye on this interesting twist in Akon’s career.

Ray Clark Ph.D. says
How is this different from Experimental Prototype Community of Tomorrow (E.P.C.O.T.) Walt Disney planed to build in the 1970s on his newly acquired property in Florida? Going back even further how is AKON different from the futuristic cities designed by the Swiss-French architect Le Corbusier between 1925 with his plan to rebuild the center of Paris through 1935 with his plan for the Radiant City, and the city of Chandigarh built in India in the early 1950s. All these sought to use cutting edge ideas for urban design advanced technology to create communities where everyone lives peacefully and productively with their neighbors. Planned greenfield cities tend to fall short of their designer’s expectations.

How ridiculous. Sure, built a 6 Billion dollar theme park where average GDP is $3,700 per person. This guy would be better off donating this money to the people who need it and in stead of satisfying his ego.
Anne says
Let the public work for the money and enjoy feeding themselves with their money.
They will appreciate values more
and understand technology and education to better their future and not always depend on others
for donations.
