We’ve loved all the cute designs we’ve seen of the official Disney Face Masks. More importantly, we’re super excited to see Disney Halloween Face Masks starting to pop up in the parks and online!
But, sadly the initial masks were TINY and made of very thick fabric (which shrunk further when you washed them). So we’re excited to share some BIG news with you today! Some of the Disney Face Masks have recently changed!
The first thing we noticed was that the new masks are made with a different fabric.
Instead of regular cotton, they’re now made with what seems like a polyester blend, making them a little thinner than the older masks.

Now they have that shiny, stretchy fabric that seems to have a little more give.
But the biggest thing we noticed about the new masks is that they are…BIGGER! Almost everyone complained about the old masks because they ran really small (and you can see how to handle that here), but the new masks seem to run larger.
We think the new masks will fit more people MUCH better, and could also be a lot more breathable, especially in the heat of summer.
But one thing to note — we haven’t seen this new fabric and sizing in any of Disney’s face masks besides the Halloween ones so far. It’s our guess that Disney will switch to this new fabric for all upcoming face mask designs, but we’re not sure if the previous designs will be switched over. We’ll keep you updated!

How do the new Disney masks compare to the Universal masks material wise?
MONTE says
Remember that cloth masks protect others from you not you.

I ordered the 1st place mask that Disney offered.they looked very small, Gave them As Gifts. They all Complained that after they wore them they were too small, hard to breath. I sent you an email and ask for a refund or replacement for better ones but got no response from you. I’m asking again for your help. Deanna Antoon
Ana says
I ordered disney face masks since end of May. Still haven’t recd them! Tried sending an email also, no response! Whats going on?
Karen says
I ordered some in May got them in July. I sent them back they run small. It took over 3 weeks for the mail delivered back to the warehouse. I did not get any email or anything if they received my return. I called and they told me once their warehouse get them back they destroyed them because of the virus and customer service don’t know they got it back and they don’t tell you you cannot return anything so when I called to see if they got my order back so I told them to refund my credit card so I’ll have to wait until my next credit card statement. So I told customer service they need to say on their website their stuff is not returnable. This is my last to buying anything from Disney

So all of those people that bought the old masks are stuck with them. They weren’t cheap. Anyway masks dint work. They’ve become a fashion statement, That’s all. Ridiculous.
Fran Weinstein says
Where are they manufactured?
Mike says
Go. Online and order in-95 masks if your concerned, cloth masks protect other people, Not You! Get behind the push to release the Vaccine, and Not the political bs to suppress it!
Cheryl Bacon says
That is a welcome change. I hope they are better. My favorite is still from another store that is in Disney Springs.
Steven S. in NJ says
We have purchased 3 washable cloth face masks just for our October Disney trip. Plus, a box of 50 triple-layer disposable masks for our trip. We also ordered rain ponchos for our trip because thanks to DFB, we’ve learned to NEVER buy these at the Parks, where the prices are INSANE!
Steven S. in NJ says
Oh, that’s 3 cloth face masks for EACH of us, in addition to the 2 we’re wearing for the flight down and back.
Jon says
I will not attend Disney this year (1st time in Fifteen yrs) due to concerns over this coronavirus. I understand wearing a mask indoors no problem with that but outside in the fresh air. I can’t do that. I think washing hands is way more important. Hoping we can all move on next year. I’ll just have to have two times the fun
Michael Ieyoub says
Cute masks. That’s about all they are good for.
Vera says
Do the new masks have a nose wire? If not, they are no better than the old ones for folks who wear glasses.
Paul says
Interesting that Disney is changing the fabric. CDC and other research still recommends cotton over synthetic blends as they do a better job in filtering the droplets. Kind of undermines Disney’s requirement that prohibits gaiter-style face coverings, particularly those with two layers.
Lori Bruns says
@Deanna and @Ana- this is Disney Food Blog, not the Disney Store where you purchased the masks from. You’ll have to contact them regarding your masks. Disney Food Blog is just reporting on those masks. Disney Food Blog can’t refund or exchange the mask so you purchased from shopDisney.com. They aren’t affiliated.

Got mu masks and got my Ears+
LET THE MAGIC HAPPEN!
Susan Boyd says
I ordered masks in Disney’s first offering. Material like a padded diaper and shrunk to doll-size!!
The packaging states that they are not returnable, even if they have not been opened.
A lot of us got stuck with a useless product. Disney must have made a lot of $$$ at our expense:(
Disney Lou says
I also ordered the face masks from Disney, they totally ignored my emails and complaints, so I just filed a credit card dispute with my credit card company. I got my $25 refund, but through the card dispute.
Joanne Kostiw Labasz says
Yes! I just bought 2 of the old masks (haunted mansion & a mickey) at the disney store for an upcoming trip & although they fit i did find them a bit tight & heavy (going to WDW in still hot weather). Looking forward to getting the new material. It sounds like they will be much more breathable & comfortable.
John Hicks says
This is good news and certainly an improvement but they still need to consider adjustable straps. Several manufacturers have done that and they’re very convenient for those of us who have a little bit larger faces in our ears are further away from her nose in most.
KJ says
People complaining about face mask order issues, unless you ordered them from Disney Food Blog, they can’t give you your money back. DFB doesn’t work for Disney.
Chrystie says
@Deanna, did you email shopDisney? DFB can’t get you a refund, you have to do that yourself.
Libby Clause says
I have the first masks that Disney sold. The fit is OK but they are hot to wear. I thought everyone was complaining because they were in the parks, but I wore one in an air-conditioned place and had to switch to a non-Disney masks. After reading this article I looked at my mask closely. It has 3 layers of fabric. You can pull them apart. I took a small pair of scissors and cut around the 3rd layer of fabric (the one against your face) and took it off. You have to be careful near the pleated part. Now the mask has the two layers suggested by the CDC and is much more breathable.
Sandra G says
Huh. I ordered the large masks and while they do run small, they fit me well enough for my grocery runs. Got another order of extra large which fit my adult son fine and we don’t have any trouble breathing through them, but then we are used to wearing medical masks. Cut out the tag so you’re not trying to breath through that and air dry or tumble on low/no heat when you wash them to avoid shrinkage.
Our masks are labeled “Made in Honduras.” The label on the package says no refunds, exchanges or returns. I don’t have a problem with that as there could be health issues with returns that might have been used by an infected person, but it does not say that on the website which I agree is a big fail. Disney should honor requests to exchange for size.
Wearing a mask primarily protects others from you spreading the virus to them, but it also protects you if someone sneezes or coughs near you or you touch a contaminated surface then your face. Even if you are outside, if you are going to be near other people, a mask is an easy public health measure to help stop the transmission of the virus. As others have said, DFB is not part of Disney and cannot help you with mask issues.
Vickie Kathryn ballow says
I ordered a package of 4 adult size medium. They were so small that no one in the house could wear them.
I sent in a message to the Disney store asking if I could exchange them for a larger size. No reply Buyer Beware disney doesn’t want to make it right. Honestly my 12 year old granddaughter couldn’t even wear them.

My husband and I just left Pop Century on Saturday. They were restocking the masks and they were restocking with a new mask. It’s a denim looking color mask with mickeys all over it and it’s in the new fabric. When I get home, I’ll send y’all a picture. They had size medium and large in adults only. It was at the pop century gift shop.
