Sure, it’s already beginning to look a LOT like… HALLOWEEN at the Disney World theme parks right now. But TODAY Disney has given us a bit of a glimpse about what the HOLIDAY SEASON will be like this year!
We’ve got a LOT more to share today about the Most Wonderful Time of the Year in Walt Disney World, which will bring yuletide festivities from November 6th through December 30th around the Resort. But here, we’re talking all about what the celebration will bring to one very special place in Walt Disney World: Magic Kingdom’s Cinderella Castle!
Disney shares that special projection effects will deliver a festive look to Cinderella Castle while providing a colorful backdrop for guests in their yuletide photos!
The Castle will be “transformed with a rotating series of designs;” for instance, a “whimsical” (which, for many of us is affectionately known as “ugly” 😉 ) Christmas sweater and an overlay of red, green and gold ornamentation.
These projections, it has been confirmed, will take the place of the Castle Dream Lights for this year.
But we’re sure it will bring all sorts of merriment to guests indeed… from November 6th through December 30th this year in Disney World’s Magic Kingdom!

Pat Knutson says
No Castle Lights? They can be enjoyed from afar – the projections can’t. Seriously an unnecessary cut of something beloved. Just canceled my December trip.
Erin says
Oh my. Going from those beautiful lights to making the castle look like an ugly sweater? Not an upgrade. What are they thinking?
Amy says
Why on earth is Disney replacing the Castle Dream Lights with projections??
How are projections safer than the lights? (i.e. Covid) Either way people are going to stop, look and take pictures – physically distancing with masks on. No projection could ever be as beautiful as the Dream Lights!
David Stroud says
No lights because they will not be open at night and limited attendance – why go forward with the unnecessary expense?
Amy says
I cannot believe the beautiful Castle Dream Lights are being replaced with projection effects!!! 😢 How on earth does that promote better physical distancing?! The same (reduced) amount of people will be walking around the Magic Kingdom regardless of how the Castle is decorated. Why, oh why, can’t it remain as pretty and magical as it has been in past holidays. Goodness knows, we could all use a little extra joy this season.
I understand why there will be no Very Merry Christmas Party, no Candlelight Procession, no parades and no Gingerbread House displays at the resort hotels (all activities that draw extra crowds) but changing the Castle decorations makes no sense!!
The Dream Lights were something we all could have enjoyed with existing physical distancing in place. Those projection lights are a total letdown! ðŸ˜ðŸ‘Ž
Jessica says
Will the projections even be visible if the park closes at 6pm?
Hannah says
More magic…gone.
