We’ve got some interesting Disney World construction news today!
We spend a lot of time spotting construction in the Disney parks. Just yesterday we found some new construction in EPCOT’s Italy Pavilion. To be honest, we’re pretty used to construction in EPCOT, but it’s more surprising when we hear tell of projects in Magic Kingdom! Could these permits point to upcoming ride refurbishments?Â
We were perusing Disney World building permits (which we do a lot), when we spotted two new permits, filed September 10th and 11th, for the address coded to Big Thunder Mountain Railroad in Magic Kingdom to “provide labor, material, and/or electrical for construction.” Oooh interesting!
It’s an internal Disney permit which means the document doesn’t have too much information about what the work entails. Typically, this wouldn’t be enough info for us to be interested, but Big Thunder Mountain Railroad was supposed to close for refurbishment during the closures! Is it time Disney caught up on this work? Maybe!
And Big Thunder isn’t the only classic attraction having some work done! We also spotted this permit to “remove and reinstall graphics” at the address coded to “it’s a small world!” This work sounds like a quick shape-up of some of the graphics on or in the building, so we’re not sure we’ll even notice it being done. Still, it’s interesting to note that this opening-day attraction is st to get a little TLC.
We’ll be keeping an eye out to see if any work starts on these two attractions, and we’ll be sure to let you know as soon as we see anything — ESPECIALLY if that Big Thunder work means a ride closure! Stay tuned!

I am all in for some TLC on any of the attractions, but my fingers are crossed that they wait until January. Two attractions down in MK will be tough on our Dec trip, especially Small World! Thanks AJ and everyone else at DFB-you are so, so important to all of us Disney fans. Your updates and videos really have helped during this time of Covid and we love you for it!
