Disneyland Resort has remained closed for seven months and despite pleas from Disney executives and local government, there is still no sign from the state government of a reopening.
As executives and politicians alike have noted, the reopening of Disneyland Resort is about more than guests getting to ride attractions in a theme park. It also means thousands of jobs and a major boost to the local economy. Now, a group of Disney fans are getting ready to rally at the Disneyland gate in a call for the reopening.
A Facebook event notes that the upcoming organized rally for reopening, Magic Makers Unite: Reopen the Gates, will take place tomorrow, October 17th, at 11AM in front of Disneyland. Over 200 people have indicated that they are either going or interested.
The description of the event lays out the intent of the rally. Organizers note that they plan to stand in unity for the reopening of Disneyland saying, “We will be standing for all the 28,000 Cast Members who were laid off…for the community and business that have been affected…for all the guests from around the world who need joy and inspiration that comes from the magic makers.”
Organizers are encouraging attendees to wear face masks and Disney gear, and to make signs that are “Disney-friendly yet purposeful.” The event has a focus on celebrating “the magic and wonder” of the parks.
The organizers note, “We hope to see Disneyland reopen. We hope that the magic makers feel love and support and know that they are not alone during this time. We hope to bring awareness of the lives that are impacted because Disneyland is forced to remain closed.”
