Change has been the major theme for Disney World — and the rest of the world — this year, sometimes in an exciting way, and sometimes…less so.
One of our favorite tours in Disney World has officially been discontinued, marking yet another change for a beloved hotel.
Throughout Disney World, parks and resorts continue to add, remove, and tweak operations and offerings. Already this year, we’ve had our minds blown by Splash Mountain’s planned re-theming and the most epic Food and Wine Festival.
The latest change is more of a bummer: the Wonders of the Lodge Tour has been discontinued at Disney’s Wilderness Lodge.
For visitors at this incredible resort, the tour provided an immersive behind-the-scenes look at the AMAZING design and backstory of the hotel and its adjoining villas.
We spoke to a Cast Member who confirmed that the tours have been discontinued, “at least for now.” Whether it’s permanent or not, time will tell.
For now, though, we’ll just have to settle for wandering around and exploring this awe-inspiring resort on our own!

Just came back from 10 days at Wilderness Lodge. It no longer feels like a Deluxe Resort. Lots of things are worn and torn, some Cast Members are still great but for the most part they seem overworked and cranky through no fault of their own – the Lodge is massively understaffed. Didn’t eat at Whispering Canyon intentionally, but the breakfast food at Roaring Fork was poor, lunch and dinner selections were worse. Hours of everything have been cut, the Mercantile is now 8:30am-10:00pm. There is no operational indoor bar. On Wednesday, the store was out of most self serve food and beverage items, getting restocked Thursday. It’s really, really sad to see actually. Every other resort we visited had better “everything”. Next door at the Contemporary there were multiple food options that were prepared fresh and with longer operational hours. I hope that they put some effort into rebuilding the legacy. If they don’t, it just becomes another hotel.

That is sad to hear as I am a DVC interest owner in Wilderness. It was my first resort of the 4 DVC locations that I own. I can agree, the food is sub par and when they took the Chili off the menu, (Walt’s favorite food) I was devastated. Many a time I specifically went to Twin Forks for the chili, but not any more. It is especially disappointing to learn that the resort tour was cancelled. I enjoyed taking it, it was very interesting and I encourage everyone I knew to take it. It seems that when they went the Copper Creek route the guest service and amenities began to deteriorate, I love the Lodge and have spent many hours in the lobby reading and watching the families come and go. The Whispering Canyon Cafe used to be my 2nd most favorite dining location,( after O’hana), but not any more. They have cut back on the quality and the price /value ratio is off. I especially liked it when they used to provide you the menu with your family name printed on it. A great commemorative piece. That one item made me come back time and time again. I loved the lodge, Whispering Canyon, Twin Forks, and the look, now I am down to the look.
