Walt Disney Imagineering is known for being on the front edge of technology.
We focus a lot on the innovations that could be used in the theme parks or other entertainment destinations — like this crazy zombie-fighting virtual reality invention! But sometimes, Disney works hard to bring us brand new technology that we could use in our own homes!
Take, for instance, the new patent application that Disney just submitted. This new patent for a “System and Method of Generating Effects During Live Recitations of Stories” could seriously change the way we experience bedtime stories (or reading at any other time too!).
This new technology outlines a system in which sensors respond to verbal queues while an individual is reading a designated story. For instance, if the story read, “A dragon appeared. The dragon roared,” one might hear the flap of wings and a loud roar from speakers built into the system. Wow, that would sure make a story more immersive!
This would work through the use of a cellphone. One could read the story off of an application which would then trigger the responses from the environmental speakers using your phone’s microphone. There are other potential applications too, but this is the one the patent seems to focus on!
That’s so cool! It certainly would be fun to hear Anna and Elsa tromp through the woods or Maleficent roar in the face of Prince Phillip while we’re reading aloud. As always, keep an eye on DFB to learn about the latest and greatest Disney tech!
