As you’ve probably heard, Hollywood Studios has been pretty high-demand lately.
This is largely due to the popularity of Rise of the Resistance in Star Wars: Galaxy’s Edge. To ride this attraction, you have to nab a spot in the Virtual Queue at either 10AM or 2PM, and it can get tricky.
We had a reader reach out to us (thanks @schreiberjoe!) to tell us about something surprising that happened with Rise of the Resistance Boarding Groups this morning — and for once we’re not saying that they were gone mega-quickly.
Don’t get us wrong, they still disappeared pretty fast but it took minutes instead of seconds which is a pretty crucial difference. Typically, Rise of the Resistance Boarding Groups are blocked up in 10 seconds or less, crazy we know.
But today, there were still groups available five minutes after 10AM. According to our reader, they didn’t close until 7 MINUTES after they became available for guests. That’s a pretty big window!
We’re not sure why this is. We have noticed some measures like plexiglass in what could be an effort to increase capacity on the attraction, so perhaps more availability is the result of this. We sure do hope so!! But last time we rode, they still had one party per ride vehicle, so it didn’t seem like capacity had been increased yet.
On the other hand, this may have been a fluke. Rise has had many technical difficulties in the past, and this could have just been another one.
We’ll definitely be keeping an eye on Rise of the Resistance Boarding Groups for the next few days to see if this lengthier window continues. Hopefully, it does!! And if you have experienced something similar please let us know about your experience.

They also stopped boarding mid morning & estimated time went up almost an hour. Still got on, but our group was called 70 minutes later than the estimated time.

How rough is the ride? Is it any wilder than Big Thunder Mountain?

We were there on Wednesday and got boarding group 72. Got called at 5:30-ish. And we had 2 groups in our ride vehicle with the plexiglass.

CherylD, we find it to be smooth considering that it’s a trackless ride vehicle. Definitely not as rough as Big Thunder Mountain from a “shaking you all over the place” standpoint.

We were there on Thursday. First time ever trying the virtual que. Go group 10.
About 5 mins later they made the announcement that the que was full and closed.
