We spent the whole day exploring Disney’s Hollywood Studios during the start of the Christmas season! But, we just couldn’t seem to stay away because we’re back again today to enjoy the atmosphere and maybe eat a holiday treat or two while we’re here.
However, Disney World has continued to update its overhead announcements regarding its health and safety policies while guests are in the parks. Recently, Disney updated its guidelines surrounding eating and drinking to state that guests are unable to do so while they wait in line for attractions.
Although guests can listen to the overhead announcement informing them of the new procedure, now Disney World has started to place signs around the parks stating the same details!
While we were in Disney’s Hollywood Studios, we noticed that the trash cans near Star Tours let guests know that eating and drinking are not permitted once they’ve entered a ride’s queue.
As the parks continue to modify their health and safety regulations, we’ll keep you updated on what changes will be occurring before your next trip! And, you can find out more details on how Disney World looks different right now by keeping up with our experiences!

I’m sorry, but no drinking in line in our hot, humid Florida weather is ridiculous. I’m presuming they still are OK with water – or should be. But they already are social distancing in lines. So I cannot take a swig of my bottled Sprite now while stationary?
Kristen says
I’m glad to hear this. Was there at the end of October and several people I encountered ate an entire meal in line with their masks off. That made me uncomfortable. Although I would agree that I hope folks can still take a quick drink from their water bottles. I see no issue in a quick sip. Better than passing out!
Mary says
I was just in Hollywood studios yesterday, while people are waiting in line, they send a member of their party to buy popcorn and waters, then come back in line, then they all start eating and drinking with their masks off. Witnessed this with four different families waiting in line for the Mickey and Minnie runawsy train ride.,I don’t have a problem with people eating or drinking if they’re 6 feet away, but a lot of other guests have problems with it.
Margaret+Zukoski says
I absolutely agree with Amy!! You can’t drink from a water bottle while in line??? These people are nuts! No Disney for me! People need to boycott the parks until Disney comes in for a landing!
Amy says
This is too much. You’re outside and 6 feet away, right? That’s the time to not have to wear a mask at all! I’m sorry, this is ridiculous.
Randy says
I had the same thought, Amy.
Ron Myers says
Stop you’re whining. Eat and drink before you get in line. The lines aren’t that long anymore and it’s not all that hot this time of the year. Hopefully, as it get more towards the spring and summer, they can relax the policy a bit. Unfortunately right now, there is an explosion of positive COVID case all over the country and this is what needs to be done to keep us safe and the parks open. Follow the rules or stay away please. Thank you Disney!
Will says
Ok, they are tripling down on crazy. Are you telling me that Disney expects you to stand in 90 minutes lines at DHS with no shade and not be able to sip on water? Seriously?
Joanna says
Happy to see this. Too many people use eating and drinking as an excuse for not wearing a mask. If people don’t like the rules they should stay home.
Kathleen says
I was there 2 weeks ago and it is a total one bad apple spoils the whole bunch. Some Folks would eat and drink the whole time in line. Stand with the lid off their bottles and mask down. And when a CM would ask them to put their masks on the would yell I’m drinking(eating) rudely. I would say this was less than 10%
Stephanie says
No way I will abide by this policy with all the long socially distanced queues in the sun. Hydration is essential, and I will happily explain that should anyone try to reprimand me for momentary mask removal to drink from my water bottle.
Greg says
I commented about this after seeing a lot of abuse during our last visit. I doubt a drink here and there would have caused this reaction by Disney, but there were people that thought they were being cute getting in line with food and drinks for everybody in their party, then leaving their mask down just about the whole time they were in line. Yeah, it was that obvious what they were doing and we saw it in almost every line we were were in.
So it was the few people that thought they found a loophole that ruined it for everybody.
Mark says
I absolutely agree with Disney’s policy. People are the worst. If you still feel like a trip to Disney is necessary, then you should prepare for things like this. The company is bending over backwards in order to allow guests to enter. Food-grade plastic tubing can be purchased at any hardware store. Just slip it into your mask.
Lori says
Yet another asinine Disney decision by execs who don’t stand in line for any reason. No fast passes and no single rider which means long lines to wait in. I was just there 3 weeks ago and allowing our 21 mo old grandson snacks and drinks from our water bottle in line was the only thing that kept us sane.
Tarantula says
I felt comfortable sipping my water through a straw without removing my mask, but I understand why they have to make extra-strict rules coz otherwise people just use this loophole to get out of mask-wearing completely.
I’d be curious to know though, does this apply to those with medical reasons for needing food or water? My 8yo nephew has Type 1 Diabetes and he regularly needs to consume carbs or water in order to adjust dangerous highs/lows in his blood sugar. We were already going to ask if he qualifies for the DAS, but if he cant have carbs or water in line I’m hoping he will definitely qualify… Worst case scenario, if he has to leave the line to find a safe space to eat/drink, I’d hope the CMs would kindly let him re-use the DAS return time he tried to use before. Will try not too worry too much – Disney always tries to do their best.
Michelle says
I think that it is responsible to ask people not to eat and drink while waiting in line. I would love to see Fast Pass return to allow those who don’t want to wait in lines to reserve them. I think it’s ridiculous to have lines as long as they are.
Carol says
It was in the 90s when we were there in August/September. I would have passed out if I couldn’t take a drink while standing in some of the lines while being 6 feet apart and stationary.
KJ says
Typical guests..always looking for ways to skirt around Disney policies. So now everyone has to pay the price for something these people did to avoid getting in trouble for eating when they shouldn’t be.
Jack says
So sad what Disney has become.
Kira says
Welcome to the new normal!!!
Mel says
Can they really expect people to go without water for up to an hour or even longer while waiting line?
Penny says
There goes my afternoon beer in line for Kilimanjaro Safari!! Boo Hoo.
Cheryl Vahling says
I am Type 2 Diabetic and standing in the hot lines can make me feel the need to drink. My specialized medications warn to stay hydrated. If a Cast Member says something to me, I just tell them I am drinking or we will possibly have a 911 situation .
Francine Falter says
Going much going to pretty much echo, loudly, what has been said. It’s absolutely irresponsible and unsafe to ban drinking in lines when the weather is so intense in Florida. If they intend to enforce this then they should be prepared to make lines much shorter! We went in September and lines were shorter overall but popular or new rides had very long waits. If people are spaced out in social distant markers while waiting then having a snack or especially a drink to hydrate is perfectly acceptable (according to CDC). I mean are they going to require people to wear masks in their restaurants which is enclosed spaces most times. This risk IMO is higher than being outside in a line spaced 6 feet apart. This is just absurd and unsafe. This will lead to other unsavory issues like law suits etc….. It’s unbelievable to more how little common sense and critical thinking there is around this virus.
