From Star Wars hotels to Ratatouille rides, there are a LOT of new things to be excited about at Disney World these days!
When it comes to attractions we CAN’T wait for, we’ve been eagerly following the construction progress of a particular thrill ride at Magic Kingdom, and thanks to the latest construction update, that anticipation is only growing!
TRON Lightcycle Run has been at the TOP of our list for quite some time now, and you know we’ve been anxiously following its timeline by watching the roller coaster take shape in Tomorrowland! According to Disney, the futuristic bike-like coaster is still slated to open in 2021 for Disney World’s 50th anniversary, and per a recent glimpse at construction progress, we’d say they’re right on track to hit that goal!
Since much of the current construction is outside, and clearly visible from the park, we’ve been able to geek out over the step-by-step progress as it all takes shape right before our eyes!
On our most recent stroll through the park, it’s clear that the scaffolding to contain the final canopy enclosure is coming together nicely!
Although the attraction will be under a canopy, we can see pieces of the track being built underneath that scaffolding, and it’s fitting into place like one giant adrenaline-fueled puzzle! Cranes loom over the fenced-off area, and while there’s surely still much to do, but more so than ever before, TRON Lightcycle Run is looking like a REAL ride!
As seen from The Contemporary, the first major portion of the canopy is installed, and contains a portion of the track!
Of course, we’re left to wonder excitedly about what thrilling secrets lie within!
We’ll continue to keep our eyes on TRON progress as the ride comes together, but suffice to say that Disney World’s 50th anniversary year will be an EPIC one indeed! Stay tuned for the latest Disney World construction updates.
Here’s what costumes and ride vehicles will look like for TRON!

And a great side benefit is that once the Tron coaster is finished we can get the Railroad working again! Can’t wait to have that back.

Is there a release date for Tron yet? Considering they’re opening Ratatouille so late, I figured they wouldn’t open until next year at least. Can you link your source?
DFB Sarah says
Brenda, no opening date for TRON yet.
