It seems like there’s always some sort of construction going on at Disney World, especially now, as lots of new attractions and refurbishments are being prepared for the park’s 50th anniversary next year.
We’ve been following along with all the upcoming projects because we’re so excited to see them getting closer and closer to being completed! There’s definitely a lot to keep track of, so here’s ALL the construction going on in Disney World this week!
Magic Kingdom
TRON Lightcycle Run Construction
Construction on this upcoming futuristic roller coaster is really making progress! The thrilling coaster, set to open in 2021, looks like it’s really coming together and we’re so excited!! We checked out the view over near The Barnstormer in Storybook Circus.
We noticed that a few more parts of the track have been installed since the last time we checked on the construction!
This view gives a glimpse of where the construction is taking place in relation to Space Mountain. You can see a crane and some structures in place!
Although we’ve still got a little while to go before we’ll be able to ride this thrilling coaster, we love seeing all the progress that’s being made!

Rivers of America
Now let’s take a stroll over to Frontierland to see what’s going on with the construction of Rivers of America. The river has been completely drained for over a month now, while both Tom Sawyer Island and the Liberty Square Riverboat undergo refurbishments as well.
Refurbishment for both the Liberty Square Riverboat and Tom Sawyer Island is scheduled to continue through February 28th, so it’ll be some time before we sail around Tom Sawyer Island again!
Check out this view of the construction with Big Thunder Mountain Railroad in the background!
Although the water has been missing from this spot for a while now, it’s still strange to see it like this!
We’ll just have to imagine hearing the loud whistle sound of the riverboat for now!
We look forward to exploring Tom Sawyer Island again once it reopens, and we’ll keep you updated about any changes to its refurbishment schedule!

EPCOT
Guardians of the Galaxy: Cosmic Rewind
We’re super excited for the opening of Guardians of the Galaxy: Cosmic Rewind, especially after all the sneak peeks we’ve seen of the inside of the attraction!
We’ve been keeping a close eye on the project, but we haven’t seen too many huge changes to the exterior of the attraction recently. But don’t worry, we’re still jamming out to Awesome Mix Vol. 1, to prepare!
Take a look inside Guardians of the Galaxy: Cosmic Rewind!
Remy’s Ratatouille Adventure and the France Pavilion
Remy’s Ratatouille Adventure is yet ANOTHER project coming to EPCOT that has us counting down the days until its opening! This attraction, confirmed to open in 2021, looks pretty ready-to-go if you ask us!
We also can’t wait for the new updates coming to the France Pavilion, including a new crêperie and a glorious fountain featuring rats! That’s right, rats!
This addition looks like it will blend really well with the rest of the France Pavilion!
We can’t wait until we have an official opening date for this area!
Check out some exciting details about Remy’s Ratatouille Adventure here!
Disney’s Animal Kingdom
Kilimanjaro Safaris
This has been an exciting week on the savannah! Lots of baby animals have recently been born, and now TWO baby giraffes can be spotted on the Kilimanjaro Safaris! While trying to spot the new babies, we also noticed some progress on the mystery shack that’s been under construction! Cast members have been calling it a “warden headquarters.”
It’s made a lot of progress since the last time we checked on it, and it’s looking really good!
It has a table, a fire pit, and what looks like a trough for eating or drinking for the animals! It’s really come together!
Although we’re not totally sure what this mysterious building is for yet, we’ll let you know when we do!

Disney Springs
Gideon’s Bakehouse
We are SO excited for the opening of Gideon’s Bakehouse because we’ll be able to get our hands on those huge, chocolate chip cookies that we LOVE, all the time!
They’ve recently installed a door! It’s hard to see unless you stand a little farther back.
It looks like the shop is almost ready to open!
Although we don’t have an official opening date yet, Gideon’s Bakehouse was included in the Disney Springs guide for holiday eats which shared that two holiday cookies would be available through December 31st, so hopefully, we’ll be smelling freshly-baked cookies SOON!

Everglazed Donuts & Cold Brew
We are fantasizing about the day we can get our hands on these over-the-top donuts! We don’t have an opening date for Everglazed Donuts & Cold Brew yet, but some construction updates that we noticed today might mean we’re a little bit closer!
We noticed that the construction walls have come down and there’s a fresh coat of paint!
We love the bright colors decorating this building! Although a few smaller walls are still up around the building, this still feels like significant progress!
As construction crews continue to work on this spot, we’ll keep you updated on its progress!
Check out what to expect from Everglazed Donuts!
M&M’s Store
Although the opening of the M&M’s Store coming to Disney Springs has been pushed back, it looks like some progress is being made on its construction! We noticed the building now has windows!
Even though we’ll have to wait to visit this store until 2021, we’re still super excited!
Check out a sneak peek into the M&M’s Store!
Disney World Resorts
Disney’s Polynesian Village Resort
Construction is underway on Disney’s Polynesian Resort as it gets updated with new Moana-inspired guest rooms and a reimagined entryway. Due to the construction, the monorail no longer stops at the resort, but we snagged some pics of what’s going on over there!
The monorail still goes through the resort but does not make a stop.
You can see some of the beams being installed from this view near the Lava Pool.
Here are some more crossbeams!
Parts of the resort remain open, including shopping and dining locations. We ate dole whip out of a REAL pineapple here earlier this week, no big deal.
Check out the yummy bread pudding we got at the Polynesian this week!
General Construction
Walt Disney World Entrance Sign
We’ve been following all the new touches on the makeover to the Walt Disney World entrance sign! It seemed to be nearly complete a few weeks ago, and there are some more added details this week!
The little Mickey heads behind Minnie are now finished! The pillars were also painted gray to match Mickey’s side of the sign!
We’re definitely happy to be welcomed by this sign as we enter Disney World!
Donald isn’t finished just yet, and the teal block on the tops of the pillars will be painted gold!
Although it’s not totally finished yet, this updated sign looks beautiful!
See the Magic Kingdom entrance sign’s updated look!
Whew! Those are all the construction updates we spotted in Disney World this week and we’re super excited for all these projects to be ready for us to experience! Check back with us again next week because we’ll be back with more NEW construction updates!
