Huey, Dewey, Louie, and Scrooge McDuck got their chance at a reboot on Disney+, and now it’s Chip and Dale’s turn!
Yep! Chip ‘n’ Dale Rescue Rangers, that Disney Television Animation classic from the ’80s, is coming BACK to Disney+ as a feature film, courtesy of a live action/computer animation hybrid.
Disney announced its plans for a Rescue Rangers feature film during Disney Investor Day 2020, along with plans for a live action reimagining of Pinocchio, a new version of Cheaper by the Dozen, a Swiss Family Robinson TV show, Hocus Pocus 2, a remake of Three Men and a Baby starring Zac Efron, and more!
The arrival of a Chip ‘n’ Dale Rescue Rangers reboot isn’t the most exciting thing…it’s who will play Chip and Dale! Comedian John Mulaney, best known for his stand-up specials and stints hosting SNL, will be Chip! Meanwhile, Dale will be played by Brooklyn Nine-Nine star and former SNL funnyman Andy Samberg! Akiva Schaffer, best known for directing and co-writing Popstar: Never Stop Never Stopping and Hot Rod as well as numerous SNL digital shorts from the 2000s, will direct.
Now we just need to know who’s going to do that theme song!
Chip ‘n’ Dale Rescue Rangers will be a Disney+ exclusive, and is set to arrive on the platform in spring 2022. Honestly, we’re already SO excited, even though there will be over 100 new titles on Disney+ between now and then. Until 2022, though, we’ll be over here humming the Rescue Rangers theme and anxiously awaiting this new movie!
