Right now, that’ll set you back $6.99 a month, but Disney has just announced that the Disney+ subscription price will soon be going UP!
Today, Disney held its Investor Day conference and announced some major updates, including the fact that Disney+ subscription prices will soon be increased. Currently, a Disney+ subscription costs $6.99 per month, or $69.99 if you pay for the whole year at once (as opposed to paying monthly). But, starting on March 26, 2021, Disney+ subscription prices in the U.S. will be INCREASED to $7.99 per month (if you want to pay monthly) or $79.99 as a flat rate for the entire year (if you pay for the entire year at once as opposed to paying it monthly).

The bundle with Disney+, Hulu, and ESPN+ will be priced at $13.99 per month, and the subscription price for Disney+ in Europe will also increase to €8.99.

During the 2020 Media, Communications & Entertainment Conference held earlier this year, Christine McCarthy, The Walt Disney Company’s Senior Executive Vice President & CFO, noted that the price of Disney+ would likely go up in the future as the volume of content increases on the service. McCarthy explained that “When more content is on the service, we’ll have some pricing power.”

For reference, a basic Netflix plan is currently $8.99/month, while a standard plan is $13.99/month, and a subscription to HBO Max is priced at $14.99/month. The most basic Hulu plan costs $5.99/month, while a Hulu (No Ads) plan is currently $11.99/month.

Today, Disney announced a BUNCH of new live-action, Disney animation, Star Wars, and Marvel shows, movies, and more coming to Disney+ in the next few years! It seems Disney now feels that it has enough content and is set to release enough new content on Disney+ in the near future to justify this price increase.
And when we say BUNCH, we mean it! Disney announced over 100 new titles from the company as a whole with the majority coming to Disney+. Wow!
We’re pretty darn excited about all the new content, but there are some titles that have us really pumped.

The new trailer for WandaVision, for one, certainly piqued our interest.

It isn’t quite a surprise that with so much new content, Disney is ramping up the price a bit. It’s not just episodic TV shows either! We’re also going to see some pretty HIGHLY desired sequels.
Did someone say HOCUS POCUS 2???

AND, Disenchanted is coming…

Not to mention the fact that Pixar will be creating loads of new content for Disney+ including shorts and their first-ever long-form episodic television show, Win or Lose.
We can’t wait to see more of Dug and Lightning McQueen.

As a side note, Pixar is also working on a BUZZ LIGHTYEAR ORIGIN STORY called Lightyear.
It’s not mentioned as being a part of Disney+, but we’re pumped anyway.
Yes, a Buzz Lightyear origin story. Click here to learn more!
With all of the content coming to Disney+ (plus the other content like Lightyear) it tracks that, despite the price increase, Disney is still expecting SIGNIFICANT subscriber growth over the next few years.
Like…millions more.

Do you or anyone know if disney+ will be or is available in Japan?
Thank you in advance
So, if I paid the 3 yr special advance rate on Disney+ I’m thinking I wouldn’t have an increase in March 2021. Is that right? Thanks!
I understand that the national economic situation due to the pandemic requires all of us to make some personal decisions we would rather not have to make. However, the only answer the Disney management team has in their business plan is to raise prices and cut services. this is an overly simplistic approach and in the long run, will cause the average family to go elsewhere for recreation. My family has been annual pass holders and DVC members for nearly 20 years but with the greed-based management plan in place, I am seriously considering going elsewhere. The Disney management plan of just throwing money at things is totally dependant on an unending supply of people willing to pay unreasonable fees to feed the greedy mouse. How soon willl the grinding crunch come I don’t know. It seems to me the first thing that has to happen is for the corporate management team is to get off the gravy train before the public turns their backs and the whole thing goes flat.
I get it. Prices will go up just cause. Whatever. My problem here is that they currently have 1 original show to draw people in. The Mandalorian. The rest is filler that no one watces.
Currently they are talking about raising prices with no content to jusif the price increase.
Disney+ has been around for a year and none of the promised marvel shows that have had commercils running for a year have aired yet.
Sowhat gives. This is just a money grab. Cause they can. I’m really beginning to detest Disney.
Does Disney only charge for 10 months? Or, has this unusual 2020 year, cut the calendar year to only 10 months? If the answer is NO, your math above as to the amount per year is incorrect. You have shown the math for 10 month, not 12. Just friendly help from a CPA who is a BIG fan of DFB.
Hi, Donna. Thanks for being a fan! I think the “year” pricing reflects a one-time-payment that ends up saving folks some money. So a year, paying $7.99 monthly, is over $95, but if you are able/willing to pay in one lump sum, you can pay just $79.99. I will have the team address the wording.
