Earlier this year, Disney’s new animated movie Raya and the Last Dragon had its 2020 premiere date pushed to March of 2021.
With the continuing development of the global pandemic, the delay of other Disney movies, like Black Widow, and the decision to move certain Disney films from their scheduled premiere in theaters to Disney+, we were curious to know if any changes would come to Raya and the Last Dragon, and today we got some IMPORTANT updates!
During today’s Investor Day conference, Disney shared tons of updates — one of which was about Raya and the Last Dragon! Specifically, Disney announced that Raya and the Last Dragon will come to theaters AND Disney+ (through its Premier Access service) on the SAME DAY — March 5th, 2021!
Like Disney’s live-action Mulan, Raya and the Last Dragon will (at least initially) only be available on Disney+ for the additional cost of $29.99 as part of Premier Access.
Raya and the Last Dragon was originally set to be released on November 25th, 2020, and was later delayed to March 12th, 2021, so this March 5th release date is actually a bit of an earlier release than expected.
The movie follows the story of a warrior, named Raya, as she tracks down the legends last dragon in order to fight evil, and restore her fractured land and its people. It looks like it will be quite the epic adventure! Disney has shared that the Cast for Raya and the Last Dragon includes Kelly Marie Tran as Raya, and Awkwafina as the magical dragon Sisu.
We got a first look at it earlier this year, but we can’t wait to learn more. We’ll definitely continue to keep you updated as we spot more information on this new film.
