This is decidedly NOT what dreams are made of!
We’ve got bad news for fans of Disney Channel classics. We were ecstatic last year when it was announced that Lizzie McGuire was getting a reboot to show us all-grown-up Lizzie living life with the help of her family and friends. Now, though, it seems that reboot won’t be happening.
This isn’t entirely without warning. Earlier this year, Hilary Duff posted to share that the reboot had been removed from the Disney+ listing as there were disagreements on the level of maturity for the show. Disney wanted the show to go in a more kid-friendly direction. Duff did not believe that Lizzieβs adult story could be faithfully told under the PG umbrella.
After remaining on hold, Duff has now taken to Instagram once again to share that the Lizzie McGuire reboot will not be happening. She says, “I know the efforts and conversations have been everywhere trying to make a reboot work but, sadly and despite everyone’s best efforts, it isn’t going to happen… I’m very sad, but I promise everyone tried their best and the stars just didn’t align.”
It seems the direction that Duff wanted to take the character was pretty different from the way Disney wanted to show Lizzie, so different that the reboot fell apart. Duff notes, “I want any reboot of Lizzie to be honest and authentic to who Lizzie would be today. It’s what the character deserves.”
We’re SO sad that Lizzie won’t be returning in her all-grown-up form with her animated counterpart by her side. As Duff says though, “Hey now, this is what 2020’s made of.” As always, stay tuned to DFB for the latest Disney updates!

So Hillary Duff is giving up a lot of money for control of content on the screen. Meaning non-PG.
