If you’re anything like us, you have been EAGERLY waiting for Gideon’s Bakehouse to open their location at Walt Disney World’s shopping and dining district, Disney Springs!
And after a week or so of slowly sharing their new location menu, Gideon’s has LANDED at Disney Springs today for their opening!
You just KNOW we couldn’t help but make our way there and get our cookie on. And we’re gonna share the good, the bad, and the HONEST with you about our full reviews today!
But, we weren’t the only ones excited about this cult-favorite Orlando cookie arriving at Disney World. The line was already long when we arrived, so if that’s what you encounter when you go, you can join a virtual waitlist at the location.
After a bit of waiting ourselves, we were able to head into what we are officially dubbing “cookie heaven.”
Now, we’re no strangers to Gideon’s Bakehouse, having previously tried their goods many…MANY…times at their East End Market location. But, we had to see how the Disney Springs location compared, so we got our hands on some of their cookies and more.
For this trip, we actually got 4 of their cookies — 2 of which are limited edition holiday items — a GIANT slice of cake, and some of their exclusive and specialty peanut butter cold brew. Here are our thoughts on ALL of it.
Coffee Cake Cookie
Gideon’s Coffee Cake Cookie is a once-a-year treat at the original Gideon’s Bakehouse, but it will actually be available daily at Disney Springs. This enormous treat is made up of a vanilla bean cookie filled with cinnamon strudel and topped with homemade double baked butter crumbs.
It sounds amazing, it looks amazing, and (unsurprisingly) it tastes…AMAZING (at least according to some of our team)! It was a stand-out favorite for at least one of our taste-testers.
The cookie is crumbly and not too sweet. The gooeyness actually reminded us of that buttery, sugary, cinnamon-packed flavor you’d get in like the center of a really good and soft cinnamon roll. One member of our team, however, didn’t love this cookie, but they aren’t the biggest fan of cinnamon rolls either.
So, we’d say, if you love coffee cake and cinnamon rolls, this’ll be your jam! But, if you don’t like those things, opt for another one of the treats here instead.
Original Chocolate Chip
Gideon’s Original Chocolate Chip cookie is packed with beau coup chocolate chips, but it’s also got a vanilla punch from the cookie as they use real vanilla bean. And that yummy little salty crunch from the sea salt topper is what really puts this one over the top.
But…HOT TAKE…if we HAD to pick our least favorite of the bunch we ordered today, it might be this one. That’s not to say that the cookie wasn’t delicious (because it was) but the overwhelming prevalence of chocolate chips in this guy means that it’s not for everyone. The most dedicated semi-sweet chocolate lover will be in heaven, but we had a couple of taste-testers put it at the bottom of the bunch.
All that said (we told you we were gonna be honest), this flavor is what put Gideon’s on the map, so it’s definitely a must-get to see what side of the camp you fall into. If you’re someone who wishes cookies were basically all chocolate chips with just a little bit of cookie dough, this is the cookie you’re looking for. The chocolate chips themselves also weren’t sickly sweet. So, even though there was a lot of them, the fact that they weren’t overly sweet made for a much deeper flavor profile than just…SUGAR.
Santa’s White Christmas
Santa’s White Christmas is one of Gideon’s limited edition holiday cookies. The “White Chocolate Chip Cookie is filled with notes of Coconut, Sweet Caramel, Vanilla, and Nutty Flavors” according to Gideon’s. But here’s the TWIST — the cookie also has freshly ground White Christmas coffee beans throughout, and is topped with coarse sugar, sea salt, and a pinch of Christmas glitter.
This cookie was (total surprise here) delicious! (You’re sensing a trend?) There’s definitely a coffee flavor to it thanks to those ground coffee beans, but it’s really well incorporated into all of the other flavors of the cookie. We think that even those who aren’t big coffee fans will very much enjoy this one. One of our team members felt that this cookie was their favorite and claimed there was the perfect amount of sweetness for a cookie this large.
The white chocolate was so smooth, and the cookie overall had that perfect balance of salty and sweet.
Cookie Vom Krampus
Another holiday specialty, the Cookie Vom Krampus is made of Gideon’s Triple Chocolate Cookie with the addition of some chopped Andes Mints.
This cookie will make you feel like you’ve grabbed an Andes Mint Chocolate, dressed it up in the fanciest clothes you could find, and gave it a buttery upgrade. We also found it to be the most buttery of all the cookies.
But mint is super polarizing for our audience here at DFB. You love it or you hate it! So know which one you are before you invest in VOM KRAMPUS!
In our hearts, most of these cookies essentially tie for 1st, except for the original chocolate chip cookie which some of our team agreed should be in 2nd because of the chocolate chips to cookie dough ratio. All of the items we tried were superstar specimens, though, and when we’re comparing half-pound Gideon’s Bakehouse cookies to one another, the real winner is US. Which one will be your favorite? There’s only one way to find out.
VALUE PER COOKIE?
Each cookie we tried today was priced at $6, which, when you think about Disney treats, this is a GOOD DEAL MY FRIENDS. I’m not gonna lie — most of our team has an average of about eight Gideon’s cookies stashed in their freezers at any given time, because they last forever and just a quarter of a Gideon’s is enough sweetness to hold you over until tomorrow. So $6 for a very shareable, unique, high-quality treat skyrockets Gideon’s to the top of our recommended snacks list already.
Slice of Cake
Aside from cookies, Gideon’s Disney Springs location also offers slices of cake, with flavors that will vary. Today’s flavor was Red Velvet. The cake is original red velvet, not chocolate cake with red dye — and you can definitely tell the difference when you bite in.
The cake has a cream cheese frosting and filling, and there are candied pecans around the outside. And if you thought we were joking about these being GIANT, there are actually 3 layers of cake per slice. So, if you’re grabbing a cake slice, be sure to save some space in your stomach for it!
Our team is actually a bit divided on this one. Some of us who have had it in the past have felt that it was good, but nothing super special. They found it to be almost overly sweet. But, other members of our team who had the cake today said they would quite literally “do anything” for the red velvet cake. They thought the cake was very good, not overly sweet, and not overly filled with chocolate flavor either. They also found the frosting and filling to have a touch of savory along with the sweet, which they really enjoyed.
If you’re looking for a really strong chocolate flavor though, this might not be for you. Want to try it yourself? Head over to Gideon’s in Disney Springs and see if it’s available for you to buy! Cake slices switch up daily, so you never know what your options will be.
Our slice of cake today cost $9. Value-wise, that’s not bad at all. Many Disney desserts will set you back amounts in the $10+ range. And since this is basically three slices of cake in one, it’s very shareable as well. So we don’t have too much beef with the price.
Cold Brew
And finally, to round out today’s Gideon’s Bakehouse extravaganza, we got a Peanut Butter Cold Brew Coffee, which comes with a dash of cinnamon on top. This is a unique Disney Springs location offering and will be on the permanent menu.
We’d say this drink is right in the middle in terms of sweetness. You can taste the peanut butter in it, but it’s just the right amount and (at least in our opinion) wasn’t overpowering. But, it did leave us with that creamy, peanut butter aftertaste.
If you like your coffee drinks to be VERY sweet, take a sip of this one before you do anything to it, but be aware that you might want to add a tiny dash of sugar to sweeten it up.
Overall, if you LOVE peanut butter or are looking for a coffee drink that’s sweet but not too sugary in terms of taste, this might be a drink you’ll really enjoy. On the other hand, if you’re looking for a super sweet cold brew or a really strong coffee drink — you might want to skip this. This drink is more for someone looking for a coffee that’s right down the middle in terms of strength and sweetness. Try it for yourself and let us know what you think. The Peanut Butter Cold Brew at Gideon’s is priced at $6.
Today marks the first day of Gideon’s soft opening. The store will have its “Official” Grand Opening in the new year. We’ll be on the lookout for a grand opening date and let you know when we find it. We’re looking forward to ALL of the sweetness that this new spot is sure to bring to Disney Springs!
