UPDATE: Gideon’s Bakehouse released an update to discuss the reasoning for the closure. The statement says, “We are still in a soft opening mode. We’ve learned a great deal over our holiday test run and are so grateful to everyone for making it such an overwhelming success! Our opening was beyond our expectations, so we are putting on the brakes to deal with behind-the-scenes logistics ahead of the grand opening.”
On December 23rd, Disney Springs gained a new cookie spot — Gideon’s Bakehouse!
This is no ordinary bakery, however, as they offer huge cookies and specials, like the Hot Cookie Hour. However, today it was announced that Gideon’s Bakehouse would temporarily close.
According to a post from Gideon’s on Instagram, “effective this evening, Gideon’s Bakehouse at Disney Springs will be temporarily closed.”
It is uncertain why Gideon’s Bakehouse is closing at this time or how long this closure will last, but we’ll be sure to update you with any more details we find out. Stay tuned to DFB for the latest Disney food news.

This screams COVID CASR. But Disney won’t say anything that scares people away. It’s horrifying.

Clearly Covid-19 related. Just be honest.

They are closing because they had a soft opening. Meaning they did a test run to see how things went and they’re are now revisiting things logistically that they need to adjust to make sure they can keep up with demand. They said all this in their post that you DFB added to this article. This is common practice in food service establishments.

We were there on 12/26 and again on 12/30. They used a virtual queue, which worked great on 12/26 but was clearly overwhelmed on 12/30. Disney springs was packed, and although everyone was wearing masks, there was no social distancing. The cookies were great, and the staff did their best to handle the crowds, but it was just too many people.

I went to Disney Springs 5x last week struck out 5x on getting any cookies. I’m still sour about it.

The bakery is to small customers to close inside need a window outside to purchase . I saw it on a you tube channel not enough space for all the customers . Window and pick up would work there were a lot of people buying the cookies .They made a lot of money in a small amount of time .

Smart move! Better to put a toe in the water before jumping in! You’ll have better product and better service when your hard open occurs.
My family and I wish you the best!

As someone who has visited the Winter Park original location of Gideon’s MANY time….this is nothing more than them getting overwhelmed….They usually sell out of their cookies by 3pm most days….That location is not much bigger than a standard bedroom size…with no more than 2 people working….I’d say they need to train more people and even order more ovens/Etc….I’m worried that trying to mass produce these cookies will lower the quality!
