One of the coolest things about Disney’s Animal Kingdom is being able to witness wildlife from all over the world in beautiful, immersive environments!
It’s also cool to see their natural behaviors with each other, even if some of those behaviors are…awkward. Like an attempted pheasant mating ritual we saw today, and let’s just say he’s not exactly Prince Charming!
For wild animals, unlike Disney princes and princesses, it isn’t always a fairy tale romance!
Today, we were strolling along Maharajah Jungle Trek, taking in the sights and checking out some animals. Suddenly, we were greeted with a bit of an awkward encounter!
In the aviary, we came across a male Argus Pheasant trying to impress a female pheasant, and spoiler alert, she had NO time for it!

Oh that poor fella! We were there in early December and have a video of his attempts to woo her, he’s persistent if nothing else! It really is awesome to witness- and his feathers are just beautiful.

Oh he’s beautiful! I feel bad he was turned away! 💜

We have 25 ducks that live in front of our house. The pond is about 50 feet from our bedroom window. My husband built a porch across the front about a year and a half ago.
A couple months ago a friend came to visit and see all the new projects, including the porch. After standing outside, chatting, admiring the view, she turned to us and said, “In all my 55 years I have never seen ducks having sex until today.”
We won’t soon forget that day.

That’s hilarious. He does that all the time, and she really is not into him. But he keeps trying.
