Disney World has implemented limited capacities for all the theme parks including gift shops, restaurants, and attractions.
Virtual queues for gift shops and other locations have been introduced to help reduce crowding and lines. Sometimes, guests will need to scan a QR code that will redirect to a virtual queue sign up. Other times, they need to talk to a Cast Member to get “in line.” Once you’re signed up, you can enjoy other parts of the park until it’s your time to return. We noticed the virtual queue sign up was a little different at Dok Ondar’s Den of Antiquities in Star Wars: Galaxy’s Edge.
Dok Ondar’s is a small gift shop with a very small capacity. Prior to today, guests would either wait in a physical line or talk to a Cast Member to get in the virtual line. A sign was posted outside of the gift shop today and it asked guests to scan the QR code and use the website to sign up.
We’ve seen the same boards pop up for popular locations like World of Disney in Disney Springs. It allows guests to sign up for the queue and limit contact between the Cast Members. The code will direct you to a Virtual Waitlist link that will have you input your name and phone number.
Once you sign up, you’ll be sent an initial text message telling you that you’ll be notified when it’s your turn. You’re sent a second text message when it’s time to head to the gift shop. This cuts down on your time waiting in a real line and wasting precious park time!
We’ll be curious to see if more virtual queue boards like this start popping up around Disney World more often. We’ll keep you posted as we learn more about limited capacities, virtual sign-ups, and more safety regulations!

This system seems all well and good but, what happens if you don’t have an American phone number?
At some stage the international visitors will be allowed back into the country. Lets hope by then the virtual queues won’t be needed but then that is also prolonging the time when us International guests can return…
This is a bit of a no win situation for non Americans 🙁

I hate to say this but Disney is getting to complicated if you are not computer savy. A person needs to know how to maneuver a cell phone when you do not have a smart phone, or even yet do not know how to use one you are left out of the festivities so why go to Disney I am a big fan of Disney we go often but the way things are going I don’t think we will be going any more
Very sad

I have yet to be able to use the QR code thing. Do I need to download a different app? Do you do this from the Disney World app? CAn someone tell me how to do this?
DFB Sarah says
Randi, Apple and Android operating systems should allow you to open you camera app and point it steadily at the code. This should trigger a link to whatever is associated with the code. If this doesn’t work for you, you could download a QR code reader to your phone. It’ll need access to your camera, and it works the same way.

Thank you Sarah! I will try it next week when we are there. I have been unsuccessful so far, but maybe someone in line can help me too if I can’t figure it out.
