One of the most popular rides at Disney World is Rise of the Resistance in Star Wars: Galaxy’s Edge at Disney’s Hollywood Studios.
It’s such a hot ticket item that Disney has a special boarding process in place where guests must join a virtual queue to get a boarding group via the My Disney Experience app. TYPICALLY the boarding groups vanish in mere SECONDS…but not today.
Here’s how it works: two times during each day (those times are currently 7AM and 1PM), guests can log in to the My Disney Experience app and attempt to join the virtual queue for Rise of the Resistance. At 7AM, guests can log in from anywhere, as long as they have a park pass reservation for Hollywood Studios. At 1PM, guests must have a park pass reservation AND physically be in the park at the time.
Here’s the thing, though — it’s HARD to get a boarding group because these groups go FAST — like in seconds. In fact, when we asked our readers about it, a whopping 77% told us they never managed to get into a group! And that hasn’t changed much, even after reopening.
Now, it sort of made sense that once the park reopened and the ride was running with more limited capacity (at first, Disney was only seating one group per ride vehicle), this could still be the case. But boarding groups still went quickly even after Disney World added plexiglass that allowed Disney to seat more than one party per vehicle, increasing the capacity of the ride.
Today, though, when we tried to join the virtual queue right at 1PM, we got a boarding group with no problem!
But then we noticed that the virtual queue was still available 14 minutes later, which is basically UNHEARD OF! That “join” button should have disappeared before the clock even struck 1:01PM or so!
We checked again at 1:20PM, and, there were still boarding groups available! 😲 SAY WHAT?
Color us shocked, but we couldn’t pick our jaws up off the ground when we checked again at 1:30PM, and that “join” button was still available. We’re pretty sure this is a world record or something!
We did one final check at 2:03PM, and surely there would be no boarding groups left for the day, right? NOPE! Guests could still join a virtual queue for Rise of the Resistance — over an hour later.
The boarding groups finally were gone around 2:45PM — almost 2 HOURS after they opened. What is this madness?!
Has it finally gotten easier to get a boarding group for the hottest attraction at Disney World or is it just “upside-down day” and no one told us? It could have something to do with the low crowds we’ve been seeing lately or just be an odd off day. Color us surprised to see this highly sought-after ride still available over an hour after boarding group distribution. Whatever the reason, this was a big shock today!
We’ll continue to keep an eye on boarding group availability and let you know what it looks like in the future, too!

My son and I were there a week ago Monday. We were on Tower or Terror dropping when I had to hit the 1 pm button. We made it in at the end of the day. Such an awesome ride!

Tuesday this week 7:00 AM Full in 8 seconds. 1:00 PM got backup boarding number 158 , cast member stated we might get on between 6 to 7 pm. Did not. Also noticed other comments that someone has been on Seven times, it would be really nice if people did not ride more than once and let people who have never been on a better chance to board.

8 seconds? For me, it has been 1 second (no joke). This is now the 3rd day on my vacation. I’ve even tried using my cellular instead of the hotel WiFi and still can’t do it.
