For adults and kids alike, it can be hard to go to Disney World and NOT be tempted by ALL those fun souvenirs.
We’ve definitely got some souvenirs that we do NOT regret buying. But even buying those can really add up in terms of cost (especially with big families). So, you might be on the hunt for a souvenir that’s relatively inexpensive for yourself or your little ones. Or you might be a collector-type looking for a Disney collection you can actually get without breaking the bank. And we may have found just the thing. Recently, we spotted a souvenir that’s small (AKA no need to buy extra luggage to bring this home), not super expensive, and something you’ve probably never even noticed before!
You’ve probably heard of and seen (and maybe even own a few) of Disney’s Pressed Pennies. These are some of Disney’s smallest and least expensive souvenirs, making them easy to carry, and pretty cheap to buy and collect. Fun & inexpensive & they fit in your pocket — what’s not to love?
So, you’ve seen the pennies, but have you ever seen Disney’s Collectible Medallions? We bet you’ve walked past one of these machines as you were running to your next reservation or ride and never even noticed them. They’re not new (well, they might have updated designs, but the fact that Disney sells collectible medallions is not new). In fact, they’ve been around for several years, but they’re often overlooked. We spotted one of these Collectible Medallion machines in the Emporium in Magic Kingdom.
The machine there had 4 different medallion designs to pick from featuring Mickey and Minnie, Donald, Pluto, and Goofy.
The medallions themselves come in a few different colors as well. Do medallions really make sense on Main Street, U.S.A.? We’re not sure. But they DEFINITELY fit in the next spot we found them…
…near Pirates! We spotted another medallion machine back in Adventureland at Plaza del Sol Caribe Bazaar, the shop at the exit of Pirates of the Caribbean.
This machine had all gold coins featuring 4 different pirate designs. There was a Mickey coin that says “I Never Surrender,” a Minnie design that says “I’ve Got Pirate Swagger,” a medallion featuring that signature scene of a skeleton pirate at the helm of a ship, and a medallion with Pluto holding the keys (like the dog in the ride) with the phrase “Here Comes Trouble” on it.
These are just two machines but there are more medallion machines around Disney World. See if you can spot them on your next trip!
You can pay for these medallions using Apple Pay, Soft-Wallet, a credit card, and cash too. And now, the key question — what does it cost? Well, they’re definitely more than a pressed penny, but they’re still relatively inexpensive. You can get 1 medallion for $5, 2 for $10, or 4 for $15 (you essentially pay for 3 and get the 4th free!)Â Basically, you can get 8 of these medallions for about the same as the cost of 1 pair of Minnie ears.
Now, Minnie ears might be your thing and that’s TOTALLY okay. But, if you love being able to buy a LOT of things rather than just one (quantity AND quality), you could definitely collect way more of these than Minnie ears, shirts, and even pins and still stick to your budget. Although they are certainly not as “cost-effective” as other items that might cost more initially, but you could ultimately get more use out of them.
But, if you’re looking for a quick souvenir to bring back to a friend, or something small your kids (or you) can collection from Disney World, you might want to check out these Collectible Medallion machines. You may just find yourself walking away with one (or 4 because really how can you turn down a 4 for 3 deal?!).

It’s really weird that me and my wife were at Magic Kingdom in November 2019 and couldn’t find any collectible medallion machines. We had been looking for them all over the Magic Kingdom Park for the entire day. We like to collect souvenir medallions from our travels.
