In 2020, the opening of Disney’s Polynesian Village Resort was delayed as some major construction was announced for the resort.
As part of this construction the hotel is getting a redesigned entryway, changes are being made to the hotel’s monorail station, AND the hotel rooms are getting a Moana-inspired makeover! We’ve already seen Moana taking over the hotel in some ways. But, today we’ve finally gotten a FIRST LOOK at the new Moana-inspired rooms and they are GORGEOUS!
Today, Disney shared some images of one of the newly reimagined and Moana-inspired guest rooms at the Polynesian and WOW! We can’t wait to see these in person.
As Disney shares, “These reimagined spaces feature a new color palette inspired by the Pacific Ocean and its many islands, including details, patterns and textures from the hit Walt Disney Animation Studios film “Moana.”
If you look closely, you’ll even spot quite a few characters from the story in parts of the room’s design features. As Imagineer Zach Riddley shared via Instagram earlier today, aside from the characters themselves, you might also be able to find things like the heart of Te Fiti in the room’s design elements as well.
These reimagined rooms also feature all-new furnishings and fixtures. Disney shares that for the bathrooms, “Disney Imagineers took inspiration from the sandy ocean floor for the tiles and carved details in the vanity.”
Disney has said that “The colorful patterns found throughout the room bring a whole new energy to the space, evoking undulating ocean waves and tropical flowers.” In the room, it looks like there will be some fantastic artwork inspired by the movie and more touches to give it a colorful, but updated feel.
And there’s even a HEI HEI next to the coffee maker!! We have a feeling Hei Hei has enough energy, coffee would probably NOT be too good for him. But it’ll definitely help us on early Disney mornings!
Take a closer look at the rooms as shared in this TikTok!

Disney has also noted that the “Monorail station is receiving new wooden screens with tropical colors, adding to the open and airy vibe befitting of the South Seas.” Not too long ago, we saw the entire monorail station at the Polynesian had already been demolished. For the time being though, guests can still walk to the monorail station at the nearby Transportation and Ticket Center, or they can also take a boat to Magic Kingdom.
As a reminder, Disney Vacation Club rooms are still available at the Polynesian right now, while the hotel’s “traditional” rooms are unavailable due to the construction. Also, dining and shopping spots in the hotel are still open while the construction is going on, but their hours may be modified, so just keep an eye out for that.
We’ve also already seen Moana touches in other parts of the hotel, like in the costumes of some of the Cast Members there.
Disney has also shared, “This exciting progress is part of the overall evolution of our Disney Resort hotels, as we infuse even more Disney touches across our collection – just in time for “The World’s Most Magical Celebration,” beginning October 1st, 2021, in honor of Walt Disney World’s 50th anniversary.”
Reservations are now available for Disney’s Polynesian Village Resort for late July 2021.

We’re continually visiting the resort to check on any updates with its construction. We’ll keep an eye out for more updates and let you know what we find. Stay tuned for all the latest!

Rooms look great… bu Moana means nothing to me. If you didn’t use they name, it would be a Disney/Polynesian Resort room enhancement, which they do about every 10 years anyway at DVC resorts.

Hello, We are so excited about this remodel! Do you know if the remodel happened to the DVC rooms first? Or will they be last to renovate? We are going in late June, (we are DVC members) and would love to be in these new rooms! It is so hard to get a hold of DVC on the phone these days. They are so busy. Any information you have would be great! Also, What date is the Poly monorail scheduled to be completed/reopen?
Thank you DFB! We love you guys!
PS- We are celebrating our 25th wedding anniversary on this trip in June. We went on our honeymoon 25 years ago. We are going with our 21 year old son and 15 year daughter for this big celebration. Love our family vacations! Any tips to make this trip in June extra special would be great!
Cheers to 25 ears! 😉

I’m a DVC Member, will they be making changes to the DVC rooms? If so, when?

It looks amazing!
Tink says
Did they make any renovations to the DVC rooms at all?
Chrissy says
Yuck. Not everything needs to be redone with a movie theme. The gorgeous Poly was just. fine. I wish Disney would stop being lazy and just creating “IP overlays” and maybe freshen up the original, historical theming of its iconic hotels. No imagination. No respect. Walt would be very disappointed, I think.

Tink, thus far it is just the standard Polynesian rooms as far as I know. We will keep checking on this, though.

We just came back 6/1 with a stay at the Polynesian DVC studio room. No renovations. Last time we stayed at Polynesian was in early 90’s. I remember the greens in the decor, which I liked much better than the current orange and brown. I also liked the olden days lobby look of lots of greenery, 2 story trees, rock walls and waterfalls with live tropical birds
