Update: As of about 6PM ET, Space Mountain appears to have reopened as it is showing a 50 minute wait on My Disney Experience.
Disney World may be magical, but that doesn’t mean it’s perfect! Sometimes rides are temporarily closed for technical or other issues and they sometimes need to be evacuated.
Earlier this week, 5 EPCOT attractions were ALL closed at the same time. Recently, we also shared a look at 2 Disney World rides that have been closed for OVER a year. And now, a super popular Magic Kingdom ride has been evacuated and is temporarily closed!
Earlier today, we were walking around Tomorrowland in Magic Kingdom and we noticed quite a few people outside of Magic Kingdom’s 3 big mountains — Space Mountain. That’s when we learned that both Space Mountain…
…and the shop next to it, Tomorrowland Power & Light Co., were being evacuated.
Disney evacuated the queue for Space Mountain as well.
We spoke to a Cast Member who said they couldn’t disclose what happened that caused the evacuation. The Cast Member did note, however, that it would be at least 2 hours before the ride would be available again. We spoke to that Cast Member around 1:00PM ET. As of about 2:00 ET, Space Mountain still appears as “temporarily closed” on the My Disney Experience app.
We’ll keep an eye out for more details about this situation.

This was a fire alarm.
In many Disney attractions, if a smoke detector activates, it causes a silent alarm where orange strobes near the entrance and loading area flash. After a few minutes, the main signals activate. If a second smoke detector activates, the main signals activate immediately. The sequence is only for smoke detectors – if the alarm is activated in any other way (e.g. a manual pull station), the main signals activate immediately.
In all other buildings (e.g. standalone shops/restaurants, resorts, etc…), there are no orange strobes, and any activation causes the main signals to sound immediately.
I got stuck on Small World at Disneyland. Longest 30 min of my life. They had to take us off the boat. I still hear the song and have flashbacks!!!!
And sometimes your catipiller on Alice catches on fire before the alarm goes off and you smell like smoke all day or someone doesn’t latch the cover on the submarine properly and you and your 5 year old get drenched(took me years to get her back on it) but what I would not give to be in the happiest place on earth downed rides and all! Can’t wait Disneyland you have been missed
Another thing that does happen every so often is a triggering of the cascade failure system that all the roller-coasters have. On Space Mountain, if a rocket stops in Block 12 they have to manually reboot the system, and unlike in the past they need to evacuate the ride before re-starting the system.
