Cinderella Castle is currently getting a HUGE makeover and updates for the big 50th anniversary celebration that starts later this year!
We’ve already seen it get a new paint job, watched it get some work done that required the moat to be drained, and got details about what it will look like later this year. And, there are already some shiny new decorative elements on it!
But we still haven’t quite figured out what’s going on with the Cinderella Castle stage. We noticed construction happening on it earlier in the year, but we’re not sure exactly what this means. So we’ve put our best detectives on the case!
Most recently, the castle stage looked like this, with wooden planks placed across it.
But today, we observed a change that made our detective senses tingle…what’s going on here?
There are now some metal slats that have been laid over the wooden planks. Could we deduce that this is an addition to the support structure? Or is it for some kind of special effect? This is likely all for routine maintenance, but maybe it could be something more!
We’re trying to sniff out the truth, whatever it is, but so far, Disney hasn’t announced anything. But we have to ask, Disney, what ARE you up to? For the time being, we’ll keep following up on the Cinderella Castle construction, so stay tuned!

RJ Lurie says
It’s probably a sprung dance floor for a new show. Actors Equity encourages it as a benefit to the dancers.
Jeff Alvey says
Looks like there are cables running through it. (notice the ends with curved metal cable) Maybe they’re going to be adding some trackless ride technology for the shows. Maybe to move set pieces around on the stage more easily.
Jim says
Agreed, it appears to be a sprung floor for dancers.
CurlyQ says
I agree the wood is to make a softer surface for the dancers. Could the metal be for a cooling system?
amber coal says
poor Cinderella her castle will never have water in the moat
Vince says
It looks like plumbing for a fountain. If this were NYC I would say an ice skating rink.
BJKrell says
That last photo definitely resembles radiant in floor heating/cooling system panels. The tubes that loop back and forth between the metal radiant panels would carry heated or cooled water.
Colleen says
I think I heard from another Disney YouTuber that it’s a cooling/heating system for the performers on hot/cold days.
XPDCHIEF says
I still believe it is some sort of radiant floor heating. The photo shows what appears to be black tubing running back and forth between the wood supports and the metal decking.
Nick F says
The tubing zigzagging across the planks, and under the metal, makes me wonder if they are creating a cooling system…maybe for ice?
Patrick says
Looks like radiant floor heating pipes with reflectors to me. I can’t imagine they would need heating there I wonder if it’s for cooling instead to make it a more comfortable place for the performers.
Harold Mountan says
It looks like metal reflectors to direct the heat/cooling from the tubing up to the surface.
Robby says
It’s radiant floor heating. Will help to evaporate water from dew and rain faster as well as melt any frost which the stage may accumulate once in a blue moon. This will prevent shoes from being delayed or cancelled due to a slick stage caused by humidity condensation.
