A LOT changed at Disney World when it reopened with new health and safety protocols in place.
This meant that a lot of entertainment, including parades and nighttime entertainment — like fireworks — is still not happening at the parks. Although we have seen some fireworks testing, Disney has not announced when they will return.
That being said, a new job listing could suggest that fireworks might return soon to Disney World. The job listing is for a “Principal Fireworks Designer,” who would be in charge of the Disney Live Entertainment Fireworks & Special Effects Design department.
The job listing also specifically mentions Disney World, with one responsibility listed as: “Direct on-going ‘Entertainment Show Quality’ evaluations of existing offerings at Walt Disney World and provide support to maintain their original show intent.”
Other responsibilities include: “Participate in project’s creative development including blue sky brainstorming, project kick-offs, internal reviews and other project specific check-ins; Develop and/or execute special effects designs for live shows and facility infrastructure when required; and Direct the Special Effects Designers’ plan and execution for new shows and remounts.”
Disney has not yet released any details about when fireworks and nighttime shows will start up again at Disney World, but we’ve been following the progress of construction on EPCOT’s new Harmonious nighttime show, and it seems to be getting closer to completion with each passing day. We’ll be sure to let you know if we find out anything else!
