If you follow us over on Instagram, you’ve probably seen the trivia questions we ask you occasionally!
And some of you have been able to answer a lot of our trivia questions without even thinking, but we’ve added a few that are tough for even the most hardcore Disney World fans! And it seems like our latest question stumped some of you!
So here’s the question: “How many American flags are there on Main Street, U.S.A. in Magic Kingdom?”Â
And over 10,000 of you got it wrong! The correct answer is 1!
Okay, so this is a pretty tricky question. You’ll see what looks like American flags all over Main Street, U.S.A., mostly on the tops of buildings, but these are not REAL American flags. These flags are missing stars and/or stripes.
This is because the American flag code of conduct notes that “it is the universal custom to display the flag only from sunrise to sunset on buildings and on stationary flagstaffs in the open. However, when a patriotic effect is desired, the flag may be displayed 24 hours a day if properly illuminated during the hours of darkness.” So, essentially Disney would either need to “properly illuminate” all real flags or lower and raise them each day appropriately.
If those were ALL real flags, raising and lowering them would likely take a LOT of time out of Disney World’s already super busy day or otherwise require Disney to potentially put lights/keep lights on in areas that they might not necessarily want to (especially when the lights in the area are reduced for nighttime shows and fireworks)! So, the only real American flag on Main Street, U.S.A., is the one on the main flag pole in the town square.
You might have had a chance to see the flag ceremony in the park. Even during the park closures, Disney World Security Cast Members still raised and lowered the flag each day!
So there you have it. There’s only ONE American flag on Main Street, U.S.A. Stay tuned to our Instagram page, because we’ll be testing your Disney World knowledge again very soon!

That one I knew because, instead of retaining important information, my mind retains trivia.
Barclay Bakkum says
While the outside flag is not official, I believe there are a couple of official American flags inside the Hall of Presidents. They flank the “Welcome” sign in the front room. I found an image on the DFB website showing the flags: https://www.disneyfoodblog.com/2020/05/03/are-the-hall-of-presidents-wearing-any-underwear-and-other-burning-disney-world-questions-we-know-youre-thinking/
What do you think???

That was too easy… how about a trivia contest on DFB. I do not participate in social media… too biased…

OMG, Barbara, I’m right there with you!
Maggie Billel says
Yes I knew. They have a deliberate minor flaw. This enables them to stay flying. The main pole raises and lowers the flag each day!
Dr John Buono says
The requirement is for the flag to be brought down at sunset, unless there is a light on the flag. If the flag is illuminated there is no requirement for the flag to be lowered.
Vicki Daley says
Barclay, The question is how many are on Main Street. The Hall of Presidents isn’t on Main Street. Just Saying.
