Although we’re not the kind of people to put ketchup ON EVERYTHING, we still love it on our favorite burgers and fries at Disney World.
And yes, we’ve even been known to occasionally put it on our corn dogs, too — don’t judge us! But that might become a little more difficult in the future.
You see, guys — and you might want to sit down for this —Â but there is a serious ketchup shortage across the United States. It’s okay…here’s a moment for you to take a deep breath… .
Okay, now that THAT’S out of our system, here’s the deal: Fox 35 reports that restaurants are having problems keeping up with the demand for ketchup. And the price of ketchup has gone up 13% since last year. This comes a year after the pandemic has increased the demand for takeout food from restaurants.
After the CDC recommended that restaurants begin using “single-serving condiments,” shared ketchup bottles have become a thing of the past in many restaurants. Even our beloved Whispering Canyon Cafe no longer brings dozens of ketchup bottles over to the table in good fun when it’s requested. Instead, you get this… .
Heinz, the most widely used ketchup brand in the U.S., has plans to increase its production by 25%, but the company has still admitted problems in keeping up with orders for ketchup packets. Also, now that people are more likely to cook at home now and buying their own ketchup, this has created even more of a shortage in restaurants.
So if you get to Disney World and have to hunt for the ketchup, now you know why. We haven’t noticed any issues around the parks personally, but we will let you know if we experience this shortage firsthand. And if the situation changes, we’ll let you know.

Well, us traveling from Pittsburgh are always prepared! We carry packets of Heinz everywhere, because getting any other brand of Ketchup is just total trash! 😀

DJ, admirable dedication!

Well, considering the parks have an alternative brand of ketchup that is far superior to the Heinz with corn syrup (although most of Disney World is using the corn syrup free version), this shouldn’t be an issue in the parks.

DJ, I love it! People know my dedication to Heinz (not from the area, it’s just better) is so great, I kept packets in my desk drawer for restaurants and food trucks that served any other (pre-pandemic, I’m working from home now). A gag gift to me one year was a gigantic bottle of ‘not Heinz’ ketchup. (Also a giant jar of Miracle Whip because this southern girl just can’t with it.)

I didn’t know about ketchup… but when we were in Disney in January I noticed that pasta with sauce had come off many of the menus around the parks. For example, Pinocchio Village House always had pasta. And it’s gone from the menu. That’s the one I can recall but I know there were more.. I noticed because pasta with sauce was always a go-to for us with our son. So it was mostly chicken nuggets and fish for him this trip!

This is so true. I’ve tried and tried to like other ketchups – even fancy ones – besides Heinz. But nothing even comes close. Heinz forever!!!
