Construction on the Disney Cruise Line’s newest ship, the Disney Wish, is making progress!
We’ve been closely following the project, from the day the ship’s name was announced to updates on WHEN, exactly, this ship will set sail. While the big debut was delayed to summer 2022, Disney is still hard at work! And today, construction reached an exciting milestone.
First of all, the Disney Wish’s captain will be none other than Minnie Mouse herself! According to Disney, Captain Minnie is taking the helm to “inspire the next generation of female leaders in the cruise industry.” And we’ve gotta say, she looks pretty dashing in that red jacket!
And today, 2 BIG things happened for Captain Minnie. First of all, Disney released the artwork that will be on the bow of the Disney Wish — and Minnie is featured, of course! Disney explains that the scroll pattern (which has hidden Mickeys and Plutos!) is reminiscent of the classic ocean liners of the 1930s.
Secondly, Disney performed an important ceremony: the traditional keel laying ceremony! When a ship is being built, a newly minted coin is placed under the ship’s keel when the first section of the ship is lowered into the building dock. It’s considered a token of good fortune.
And guess who’s on that coin? Our captain!
This milestone marks exciting progress for the construction of the Disney Wish. We’ll keep a close eye on things and keep you posted with more updates! Stay tuned to DFB for more Disney news.
