While Cast Members are slowly being called back to work, many remain furloughed or laid off.
Here at DFB, we’ve taken a look at some great ways to provide assistance to these Cast Members, like visiting local fairs or donating to the Cast Member Pantry. And now, a new store gives you a great chance to pitch in some more!
According to the Orlando Sentinel, the Cast Co-op is a brand-new non-profit store in Clermont. It’s designed to benefit laid-off workers from the tourism industry in 2 ways. The shop will provide free groceries and other basic supplies to hospitality workers — but it also gives these people a chance to earn money through their unique talents.
Laid-off workers will be able act as vendors for the store, selling crafts, baked goods, and more in a rotating display of booths. One of the first artisans is Laura Braunston, who will sell hair scrunchies with Mickey Mouse ears. She’s currently awaiting her call back to work from Disney.
Sandra Cagan, who owns the Co-op building, stated that the store will be around “until there’s no more need.” And even though the shop isn’t officially open, that need has been demonstrated: almost 80 people have already applied online to determine their eligibility for the Co-op’s services.
If you want to visit, the Cast Co-op’s grand opening is Saturday, April 24th from 12PM-5PM. It’s located at 16744 Cagan Crossings in Clermont, Florida! After the grand opening, it’ll be open on Sundays from 12PM-5PM, as well as on Wednesdays and Fridays from 10AM-3PM. If you’re interested in becoming a vendor or a shopper — or if you want to donate — you can follow this link.
