Although it may not be the most thrilling ride at Disney World, the Tomorrowland Transit Authority PeopleMover is a serious fan favorite! So you can imagine everyone’s worry and fear when this leisurely trip around Tomorrowland didn’t reopen with the park last summer. Since then, we watched in agony as its closure was extended again and again (and again, and again).
To be honest, there was a time when we thought the PeopleMover was completely DOOMED, destined to follow in the footsteps of its west coast counterpart. But thanks to an announcement from the President of Walt Disney World, Jeff Vahle, we finally learned that the PeopleMover WOULD be moving people once again! And that day is today, friends.
The day has finally arrived where we can kick back, relax, and take a trip on the PeopleMover for the FIRST TIME since Disney World’s closures began back in March of 2020. It’s been THIRTEEN months! We rolled up bright and early to be reunited with the Tomorrowland ride.
We gradually saw signs of life coming back to the ride — that creaky belt was moving and Cast Members were on the scene. Initially, Cast Members weren’t confident about what time the ride would officially reopen, but we did notice some Cast Member chefs getting a chance to hop on it — and then they were later evacuated! EEP!

Cast Members Evacuated
So we waited, and waited…
…and then the closed sign came down!

FINALLY! The PeopleMover reopened and we were moving through the line! YAY!

By the time we got on the ride, there was a decent-sized line behind us. The wait time for this attraction is still not on the My Disney Experience app, but we’ll be looking for it to update on there!

There’s a line!
And then we were on!!!

We bet you can HEAR this photo…
The PeopleMover is a simple, slow-moving attraction, but we’ve always found it a great place to take a break and rest your weary feet without needing to leave the park!
It’s been over a year, but finally…HELLO from the PeopleMover! 🎉 pic.twitter.com/D6g9UlwPNL

Oh, how we’ve missed this view.

We’ve missed this view
If you’re looking for a unique POV in Disney World, look no further than the PeopleMover.

Oh, Happy Day!
It goes through several of Tomorrowland’s buildings, including Space Mountain, Buzz Lightyear’s Space Ranger Spin, and Mickey’s Star Traders.

By the time we got off, there was a SERIOUS line.

What’s your favorite ride in Magic Kingdom? Let us know in the comments!
I’m so glad the PeopleMover is open again. It is was a favorite with my family, especially my Dad, we felt like it was a wonderful way to relax, refresh and unwind for a little while.
It’s about time, it’s about space, it’s about putting the people mover back in its space… (parody from the opening theme music from the Sherwood Schwarts TV show “Its about time” from the 1960’s……lol
Oh yeah! It actually opened. But for how long? DFB please let us know when it breaks down again.
So after all this time of being closed, they couldn’t get the boarding station entrance ramp working? The PeopleMover has always been a favorite of mine, but it isn’t receiving the attention and care that the attraction deserves, despite being closed for a year.
I don’t like the dark, so the two minutes thru Space Mountain are stressful for me. At Disneyland they had a Tron light show going thru their Space Mountain so it wasn’t that pitch black atmosphere. It may be some time before I can talk myself into going on People Mover, but the views of the outside are great. 😊
Wow. Are the cones all gone? Were there any changes or updates? Same narrations? I’m amazed it was down for 13 months and the loading walkway was not activated and you still had to walk up to the ride…any indication why it was down for so long?
Hi, Steve. We were on first thing in the morning, and at that point the walkway wasn’t activated. However, when we rode it later in the day (twice), it was operational. We think it just hadn’t yet been turned on during our first ride. As for changes or indications about why it was down for so long, we don’t have that info. Nothing seemed overtly different.
Todd, it was operational later in the day when we returned.
Steve
It initially went down to have all the custom track Magnets replaced.
Then Covid happened and supply chains were stalled.
Now… why, after supply chains started moving again and things were getting repaired, did it keep getting delayed? That’s when it started getting ridiculous.
I personally think their plan was to leave closed until the 50th.
But they were getting so much crap from guests and the internet that they finally decided to open it back up.
We were there at the beginning of April and it ran all day long with no people.
