Paging Star Command! Think you have what it takes to defeat Zurg and save the galaxy? Then you’re going to have to blast off to infinity and beyond on Buzz Lightyear’s Space Ranger Spin at Magic Kingdom!
And once you blast off, you’ll be wanting to reach that coveted status of Galactic Hero, right? But how exactly do you go about nabbing 999,999 points on this ride? Well, we just reached Galactic Hero Status, and now we’re going to tell you EXACTLY how we got there.
So hop into your spaceships and let’s go!
First thing to remember — You need to control how your ride vehicle spins with the handle throughout the game. The vehicles go all the way around, so whether you go left or right is entirely up to you. ALL targets have point values, but here are the first targets to hit in order to max out your score!
Room 1
The robots on the left have a target on each hand. Shoot the left — it’s worth 100,000 points! And shoot it as much as you can. It’s harder to hit when you get closer to it, so start lining up your shot with your space gun as soon as you see the robot. Pilot your ship towards the robot because it will otherwise try to spin away from you.
Now, look up at The Claw on the right side of this room (it’s on the ceiling, so REALLY look up). It’s another 100,000 point target! You’ll need to spin around so you are facing backward to hit this one AFTER you pass the robot.
Room 2
Quickly turn the spaceship back around as you go into the second room and look at the wall on the right — you’ll see a volcano with two targets. The TOP target is worth 50,000 each AND it makes the volcano erupt. You can hit this as soon as you enter the room and you’ll get a chance to hit it again when you go around the corner.
This is the biggest room, so you have a nice long time to hit that baby. And don’t forget to keep piloting your spaceship so you can keep hitting that top target.
Zurg
The final big point value target is ZURG. You’ll see him in a crazy contraption on the right side of the room. Directly under him, look for the word “Pitiful” — there’s a target just under it. This is the final 100,000 point target. You can NOT hit it if you are directly in front of it so you have to try to hit before and after you pass it. Keep piloting your spaceship so you can line up with that target and FIRE AWAY.
And that’s it!!! Hit these targets as much as possible (although you can also hit others when those aren’t in firing range). After Zurg, you will go through a tunnel where you can still shoot at moving targets around you. They look a little different, but they still rack up points!
But wait, because it’s not over yet! You can still get points in the Photo Room (where they snap your photo on the ride). You no longer have control of piloting your spaceship, though, but you can still keep shooting at any targets you see here!
When you see Buzz at the end of the ride, your final score will be flashing in front of you. And if you following our tips here, it could very well say 999,999!!!
And if you DO get 999,999 points, be sure to pick up your Galactic Hero sticker from the Cast Member in the gift shop at the exit. Those are serious bragging rights!
So good luck, space rangers — and may you all be Galactic Heroes! And we’ll keep sharing other Disney World tips and tricks with you, so stay tuned!

Recently hit 999,999 when room 2 gave me the all the shots I needed AND we got stuck in room 2 which was a game changer.

Best to make sure the car in front of you is empty and you sit on the left side. Gives you the best shot at it.

Sad to say that the ride is in need of some repairs as the control to steer left or right on the cars is worn out and may not work at all on some cars. We were disappointed when we went in January of 2022 and couldn’t aim out vehicle at all, it just kept spinning left on it own and we couldn’t stop it.. The Little Mermaid ride needs some attention too. I can’t believe Disney is letting their rides get into such bad condition and still not fixing them.
