Halloween is going to look a little bit different this year again.
In 2020, most after-hours events were canceled in Disney World due to the global health crisis — including Mickey’s Not-So-Scary Halloween Party. This year, the Halloween party has been canceled AGAIN but we’re getting the After Hours BOO BASH in its place. So, what’s the difference?
The first big change comes with the length of the party. Mickey’s Not-So-Scary has historically run from 7PM to midnight making it a 5-hour event. The After Hours BOO BASH, which will take place in Magic Kingdom like Not So Scary, will be a 3-hour event from 9PM to midnight. But according to Disney, “Disney After Hours BOO BASH tickets will grant admission to Magic Kingdom park as early as 7:00 PM without the need for a day park ticket or Disney Park Pass theme park reservation.”
The BOO BASH does take after Not-So-Scary in some ways. The event will feature party music, Halloween decorations, Disney attractions, and “oh-so-eerie entertainment” just like year’s past. But, some of the offerings will be modified from what we’d typically see at a Not-So-Scary party.
For instance, don’t expect to see the Boo-to-You Halloween Parade. Instead, we’ll see Halloween-themed character cavalcades like we did in 2020. Characters to pop up might include Dr. Facilier, Captain Barbossa, and of course, classic pals like Goofy and Chip ‘n’ Dale.
Another similarity to Mickey’s Not-So-Scary Halloween Party is the Cadaver Dans (the Halloween-y version of the Dapper Dans) are joining the festivities at the BOO BASH. And you’ll get to try themed treats and treat stops which you KNOW we’re excited about. Plus, grown-ups can get dressed up just like in years past. We’re interested to see how the candy spots are handled this year since that is a high touchpoint.
So, really, the biggest differences at the BOO BASH this year are the shorter hours of the party and the lack of entertainment like the Boo-to-You Halloween Parade, the Hocus Pocus Villain Spelltacular, and the Disney’s Not So Spooky Spectacular fireworks show.
Plus, as of the announcement, Disney has not mentioned any return of meet and greets (since they are still temporarily suspended) with Halloween-y characters or Halloween overlays on select attractions at this time. Instead, we will just see friendly characters hanging out at a distance around the park!
Even though our Disney World Halloween celebrations will be modified, we’re still excited to have a chance at an After Hours event again. We’ll bring you more details as Disney releases them and of course, FULL COVERAGE of the event when it launches in August!

Information like this is why I check this site every day, so thank you very much for this article. However, I have to say that I’m not very enthused about the new Boo Bash and won’t be going unless reviews make it sound a lot better than the above does. Here’s to hoping these changes are temporary and the Not So Scary Halloween Party returns in 2022.

Do we know how much tickets will be. We are there anyway could be fun to go.
Kristie Robinson says
when are tickets going on sale?
Bob says
Are they bringing back the extra characters around Haunted Mansion? They stand away from the guests, so I am crossing my fingers!
DFB Sarah says
Kristie, Disney Parks Blog said June but gave no specific date.
DFB Sarah says
Peggy, no prices announced yet.

And of course the experince is reduced and the price remains the same or in the most ikely case will go up….Disney is no longer worth the time or effort, let alone the money.
Had I not promised my youngest Grandsons a Christmas at Disney World I would never go back, and be assured this indeed will be my last. THis is just the last penny pinching, money grab Disney has thrown at the Guests that made sure I will never visit the parks again.

Cannot understand why Universal are capable of having HNN but Disney cannot get organised enough to give people the full experience. Obviously its only to save them money and I bet its still going to cost a fortune. Come on Disney start the parades and fireworks ect again give people the full experience that they are still paying for
Marco says
I hope it’s not full price since it’s shorter and they took away most of the events
Kathleen Barr says
Depends on price?????. Would like to take our grandkids ,first time visit but…. the price might not be in our favor
Jim Tippins says
Pre Covid you could get in at 4pm until 1am 9 hours to 5 hours. 30-50% price increase. Calvacade is same parade floats but spaced 30 minutes apart. No fireworks. A couple extra free snacks. We will be skipping it though there this September. With steep rise in resort prices, tickets, season passes, and resort parking fees it seems like Disney is pushing away anyone of lower income levels to ever make it there.

Jim, I agree, It seem as if Disney is doing its best to elimate the common man from using the Parks. THe Hote; Price increases are an example. YOu would be much better served staying off property. A value resort in now more than $230.00 a night. Neighbor hotels are much cheaper. THere is no longer any benifit to staying on property. No early or late hours, no fast pass, no dining plans (some of the neighbor hotels have free breakfast). THis is no longer a COVID issue. This is a money issue with Disney. Disney has lost touch with the Middle class of Americia. NO Magica Express, No airline check in from hotels, (B0th of which you can still get at Orlando Hilton for $89.00 a night) They want you to rent a car at the airport, than pay them $15.00 to $2500 a night to park it at your hotel.
I think I will be taking my money and loyalty to someplance more affordable. Universal, Sea World, 6 Flags. Someplace I can still get into without taking a second mortage on my home.

So disapointed I went to the MNSSHP in 2019 and had such a great time. Was looking forward to the boo bash and then they came out with pricing $129.00 + tax.. Much more than ive ever paid and less time, no parade and no fireworks ill have to sot this one out😢
Essie says
I’m really hoping that MNSSHP will return when the world gets free and clear of the pandemic. If not, I may go to Disney World again, but not to the Halloween party. You know the old saying, If it ain’t broke, don’t fix it. Well, MNSSHP wasn’t broke!
