Disney World is known for having some crazy weather!
We’ve had our fair share of rainy days in the parks, so we know how this kind of weather can impact your park day. And as we’ve seen time and time again, sometimes these situations mean you’ll have to make some changes to your plans!
We were hangin’ out at Disney’s Pop Century Resort one day when some SERIOUS rain hit the area. And as a result, the Skyliner closed! But as it turns out, we’d been planning on taking the Skyliner over to Disney’s Hollywood Studios…so what were we supposed to do?!

Well, a handy dandy little sign directed us to use bus transportation to get to Hollywood Studios instead!
A similar sign informed us that the case was the same for those traveling to EPCOT. After all, the weather affected all of the Skyliner’s individual lines!
So we headed over to the bus stop…
…and were onboard in no time at all! All this to say, if you’ve got a little hiccup in your day that’s totally out of your control, don’t fret. Disney World’s got an alternative option for ya! They’re NOT going to leave you stranded.
So take notes, friends. If any type of Disney transportation is shut down at any given time, Disney will provide another means of travel for you. And then you’ll be all good to go! Stay dry in all that rain, and stay tuned to DFB for more Disney tips and tricks!

Do you like taking the Skyliner? Let us know in the comments!
Alex Crawford says
What happens if the Skyliner is closed and you have a reservation at say Toppolino’s Terrace? To get from one hotel to another can take a very long time – to parks a lot less time. Hopefully the reservation would be honored or at least the deposit waived.
DFB Sarah says
Alex, generally speaking, the Cast Members are understanding about these kinds of delays, but your mileage could vary. Always important to talk to the Cast Members when you check in to let them know what obstacles you encountered.

It’s good to know that’s there’s a way to get to your destination when your plans of travel changes on site 😀 thanks disney.
Ken says
Yes, Disney has always been very accommodating, especially when unexpected weather moves in. They are well versed I guest obstacles…

We’re staying at AoA for the first time in November. Super excited to use the Skyliner, but from what I’ve seen/read, it can sometimes be better to take the bus. Like if your trying to get to HS for rope drop. But I saw a comment somewhere that the Skyliner resorts don’t offer buses to the parks you can get to by Skyliner. Is that true? Seemed kinda weird to me, since not everyone is gonna want to ride the Skyliner
Dana Oros says
How long was the bus ride?
Javier says
Yeah, I really, really dislike their bus system at WDW. Those buses are old, broke and busted and cant be trusted. Seriously step up their transportation options WDW. The Skyliner is great but let’s have another option that does not involve App Share Rides or buses . How about expansion of the monorail option between all four parks that does not go to the hotels in WDW but strictly an interpark system and expand the Skyliner lines to other hotels. And in inclement weather then use the Minnie Vans

Glad they put signs out to take a bus. Lol. I would have been lost.
Ed says
Any idea when the food court will be open for eat in dinning
Cathy says
Do you know the actual duration of time it took to switch transportation? The transportation time along with standing in line unwittingly may be my top two fears. I need 48 hour days.
Carol Z says
The sky liner is the best! When it first was up and running I was afraid and hesitant to try it but after my initial ride, I love it and ride it every chance I get.
DFB Sarah says
Cathy, our reporter says it added about 15-20 minutes for her. They sent extra buses, so the wait wasn’t extreme. In some cases, there may also be other options (walking or taking Friendship boats to EPCOT if the Skyliner is down at DHS, for example).
DFB Sarah says
Ed, if you’re talking about the food court at Pop Century, Everything Pop is open for dining presently.
DFB Sarah says
Dana, it took about 15-20 minutes longer for us than the Skyliner would have.
DFB Sarah says
Beth, experiences can be variable, but here’s what we’ve seen and experienced ourselves. Skyliner generally starts running an hour before Park opening. For EPCOT, that’s been fine; they haven’t been letting guests in that early, and by the time we’ve arrived at the Park, we’ve been in time for rope drop. However, when it comes to Hollywood Studios, they often let guests in an hour early (or shortly thereafter), which means we can’t always get there for rope drop using Skyliner. As for buses, we do see buses at AoA and Pop, but they usually don’t start until AFTER Skyliner is running, to that wouldn’t help. The only way to guarantee you get to DHS for rope drop (again, knowing they tend to open their gates an hour early) is to drive yourself, hire a taxi/rideshare, or have an early ADR. When you have an early ADR, Cast Members at the Skyliner station can let you ride earlier than the start time.

Thank you so much! That is some really great info! I’ve been to Disney many times, but not since 2005. So much has changed since then! I appreciate DFB and all the great info I get SO MUCH!!

We just returned from WDW and can’t say enough good things about Uber. Traveling to all destinations on WDW via Uber is easy and inexpensive. We got to the point where getting an Uber was so handy and cheap, that we stopped taking Disney transportation, with the exception of the monorails and Skyliner. Over the course of a week, we saved HOURS of time waiting for buses and used that extra time to enjoy what WDW has to offer. Most of our Uber trips were under $10 excluding tip. We found multiple Uber discount codes. One code made our $65 trip between the airport and WDW completely free (excluding tip). With the ease of getting an Uber quickly, handy pick-up and drop-off locations, time saved not waiting for buses, and low cost, using Uber as our go-to transportation in WDW was a no-brainer.
