We’ve been seeing slow changes back to “normal” in Disney World.
Lately, park capacity has been increased, social distancing has been reduced, and the outdoor mask requirement has changed. We’ve also seen smaller shifts, like the removal of hand-washing stations and the return of self-serve fountain drinks. And now, we’ve noticed another change.
In case ya didn’t know, you’re able to get a free cup of water in Disney World by stopping by many outdoor locations or Quick Service restaurants! Usually, you’ll either pick up a cup of water from a tray or a Cast Member will pour one for you.
But when we stopped by Backlot Express in Disney’s Hollywood Studios today, we noticed self-serve water stations! The jugs were outside of the restaurant, replacing the trays indoors.
Guests were able to pour their own cup of water (which, by the way, was nice and cold, even without ice). The Cast Member we spoke to explained that they were constantly bringing out more jugs so people could help themselves!
We saw self-serve water stations like this pre-COVID at select locations — but this is the first time one has popped up since the parks’ reopening.

I guess drinking fountains are out of style in the new millennium. Funny how they lasted over 100 years around the world and then they are gone in less than 2.
