One of the most anticipated restaurants coming to Disney World is Roundup Rodeo BBQ over in Toy Story Land. Disney has been quiet about the project for a while — until recently, that is!
Honestly, some people may have even forgotten it was happening, considering the lack of details compared to other recently opened and upcoming Disney World attractions, experiences, and more! But, don’t worry — we’re breaking down everything you need to know about Roundup Rodeo BBQ before its debut in Disney’s Hollywood Studios, including WHEN that will be happening!
When Roundup Rodeo BBQ was initially announced, the newest addition in Toy Story Land was projected to have a 2020 opening date. However, with all the closures that happened last year, its opening was then delayed indefinitely.
Construction
Prior to Disney World’s closures, we did see hints that construction had begun on the restaurant as thematic elements and the entrance marquee had started to appear. Prior to the closure, Disney World started construction on the area. We’ve gotten a glimpse at the building that Roundup Rodeo BBQ will be housed inside.
Although we aren’t sure where the entrance will be, the building is under construction behind the entrance of Toy Story Land, which is hidden by trees and walls at the moment. We haven’t been able to track the process since reopening since it is behind walls!
Experience
The story behind the restaurant is that guests are dining in a toy rodeo arena created by Andy in his backyard. Diners will be seated inside playsets of a Western town, complete with blocks, toys, games, and more! The menu, as the name implies, will be filled with barbecue fare. Definitely expect the ultimate family-friendly atmosphere!
We have seen sneak peeks of what the atmosphere will look like once the Toy Story Land table-service restaurant (sit down restaurant) is completed. The concept art shows that guests will be dining in a toy rodeo arena that Andy has built in his backyard. Disney has said that there will be 2 larger dining room spaces that have “western town and train station playsets mixing with surprising, playful details, like some fan-favorite Pixar characters as they’ve never been seen before!” It will be an experience with blocks and lighting that allows everyone to shrink to the size of a toy during their meal.
And now, we FINALLY know when the restaurant will be opening! Disney has said that Roundup Rodeo BBQ will be opening in Andy’s backyard in 2022! So, it’s not an exact date, but at least we know that it will be happening this year.
While it may seem like Disney World forgot about its Toy Story Land restaurant, now we know that it didn’t! And, as far as we can tell, work is being done behind those walls. PLEASE Disney stop opening new BBQ restaurants. Not everyone loves BBQ. The new Epcot Regal Eagle is BBQ and many more new restaurants at Disney are BBQ.

The B Q place in Toy story land looks small hopefully it is larger . They need to be able to have space for people to enjoy the experience. If it is good eats we will have to see when it opens . If the cost will be expensive or not we will have to wait and see also .

During our last visit to HS we wanted a quick snack at Woody’s Lunchbox. The Brisket Melt looked really good. The place was half empty and not busy at all. The cast members at the “gate” said we needed a reservation and the only available one was in two hours! Come on Disney . . . no way to treat your guests. That made absolutely no sense.

HS needs another place to eat where you can get out of the HEAT!!! Someone said Disney doesn’t need another BBQ place. Well, I don’t eat steak, so should I say that Disney has to many steak places. No, if you don’t like the food, go somewhere else. HS is sorely in need of better food options!!!

I like the idea. It reminds me of the BBQ dinner that they had at Disneyland when we were there several years ago. Will they have a show to go along with it as did Disneyland.

Interesting… the comments say no to BBQ and I have to agree… but there must be some Disney research that say BBQ is what guests want. I would prefer a simple BB&J with chips, or maybe a simple grilled cheese or some other simple fare that younger guests would enjoy. What would a 5-10 year old want for lunch… not BBQ for sure. Keep it simple Disney, check your research again.
