UPDATE: A few days ago we called Disney’s VIP Tour phone line and spoke with a Cast Member. The Cast Member we spoke to at that point informed us that that Boarding Groups for Rise of the Resistance were not included in VIP Tours and guests would still need to try and sign up for them during the day. On July 16th, however, we spoke with another Cast Member and they stated that a single ride on Rise of the Resistance is included in the VIP Tours without the need to obtain a Boarding Group. On October 14th a VIP Tours Cast Member told us that the tour WILL include a ride on Rise of the Resistance, meaning if you’re on the tour, you can bypass the line for one ride. We’ll continue to look for more updates.
Until recently, the only way to get on the Rise of the Resistance ride in Star Wars: Galaxy’s Edge at Disney’s Hollywood Studios was to get a boarding pass. And that could be really difficult!
Back when the ride used a virtual queue, we found some good best tips and tricks to get a Boarding Group, but there was still no guarantee that you’d be able to snag a boarding group to ride the attraction. Now, Rise of the Resistance uses a normal queue instead, and in order to ride you need to physically wait in line, which can sometimes take a VERY long time.
But there is a way to get a ride on Rise of the Resistance without a long wait in line. We talked to a Cast Member today who confirmed that the ride will soon be included as part of Disney World’s VIP Tours.
There’s just one catch — VIP Tours can cost anywhere from $425 to $750 per hour, depending on the time of year. But the tour does include skip-the-line access on most of Disney World’s rides in multiple parks. And as of June 11th Rise of the Resistance will be one of those rides you can skip the line for!
Disney Private VIP Tours an be made for groups of up to 10 guests. With these private tours, you can tell your personal VIP Tour Guide what you’d like to see and they’ll customize the day to your wants. Other personalized services included in Disney’s VIP Tours include: pre-arrival planning, visits to multiple theme parks in 1 or more days, and more.
Just keep in mind that VIP Tours require theme park admission, which isn’t included in the price of the tour.
Also it’s important to keep in mind that all Private VIP Tours have to be booked for a minimum duration of 7 continuous hours.
So, if you’ve waited for an obscenely long time to get on Rise of the Resistance and just don’t want to risk it again, you do have another — albeit expensive — option.
However, the Cast Member we spoke with told us that you’re only allowed ONE ride on the attraction with the tour. If you want to do it again, you’ll have to go back to trying your luck with the standby line.
The standby line for Rise of the Resistance can get crazy long sometimes, but generally it’s close to around 80 minutes. For the lowest wait, we usually recommend heading straight to the ride when the park opens or staying later and hopping in line close to park closing time.
Would you pay for a tour that could give you access to Rise of the Resistance? What about using the upcoming pay-per-ride feature that allows you to skip the line? Disney World’s new Genie system will include options for guests to pay to skip the line at some attractions. Instead, guests can use the “Lightning Lanes,” which are the same as the old FastPass lines. The cost to skip the line at Rise of the Resistance is $15 per guest for a single ride. If you’d rather not pay the hefty VIP tour prices, you can get on this attraction with pay-per-ride for a much lower cost.
We asked our readers previously if they would consider using paid FastPasses (which is essentially what pay-per-ride is), and they were pretty split.

We’ll certainly be keeping an eye out for more news about the start of Genie+ and pay-per-ride, along with any updates about Rise of the Resistance, and more. Stay tuned because we’ll keep you updated on all things Disney World!

Can you do the ride without other people as part of the VIP experience? There was a drink guy (or maybe it was just his personality) that totally ruined this once in a 5 year experience for me. So if I could pay to just be my own boarding group I think that would be worth it to me 🙂

MAXIMUM EXTREAM MONEY GRUBBING ! That’s Disney for You !!

$0.00. will never pay (twice) for any ride. A family of four all ready is paying a kings ransom just to set foot in the park, then pay again to ride? Pathetic Disney.

Kristen, tell me about it. Not to be mean at all but when I rode it a few weeks ago the person next to me had the worst body odor I have ever smelled. I put my mask on to try to help but it just went right through. It was all I could focus on.
I would also like to see the ride with all of its components working. I have ridden it twice and both times something was broken. The first time was January of 2020 and the Kylo Ren animatronic was stuck in one position. The second time was just a few weeks ago and the Kylo lightsaber didn’t come through the roof and the blaster cannons firing at ships through the windows were not moving. If I’m gonna pay for a tour I would want the ride to be 100% functional.
On this point, I noticed a lot of rides down a few weeks ago. I don’t think Disney is keeping up with its maintenance at all. SDMT was down half of one of the days. One evening at Epcot around 6pm Figment, Spaceship Earth, and Frozen were all down for the remainder of the day. Test Track had been down for rain so there was almost nothing to do in the park. Get your maintenance together Disney!

Is Rise of the Resistance only included in the PRIVATE VIP TOURS at $425-$750 per hour?? What about the ULTIMATE DAYS OF THRILL VIP TOUR which you mentioned a little while back for $349 per person, is RotR included in that package??
Deb says
Paying for fast pass is just one more reason to cancel a trip to Disney. It costs way too much already and now they want to gouge more. Ridiculous
DFB Sarah says
Kirsty, it has not been listed as an inclusion on the Day of Thrills Tour.

The more I hear about Disney’s price increases and deceases in services which use to be included in a Disney stay and park visit; the more put off I become with Disney. Sadly, I don’t think Disney will be my vacation destination anymore.
Shell says
That’s really horrible. It’s hard enough to try and get a spot to ride. Now if you have vip tours and the star wars hotel guests being given guaranteed spots,it’s going to e even harder for everyone else. I really dislike the whole virtual queue. It seems very unfair.

I have been going to Disneyland and Disney world since 1955. I missed the opening for Disney world but was there for EPCOT. My point is I have loved Disney parks for as long as there have been Disney parks. If I had to express one disappointment it’s the way Disney management has gravitated to the need to squeeze the last penny out of every visitor. Now l understand the need to make money, how else could they continue to provide such an amazing experience but how often can a family with a normal income spend $6000 on a vacation. I think the sad truth is Disney doesn’t care
Tink says
Walt will definitely be disappointed at what the Disney management is already charging families. Walt’s dream was to make the Parks affordable for all families not just the ultra rich. I hope that Disney reconsiders and not charge for fast passes. Many families are still hurting financially right now.
