We’ve been counting down the days until Disney’s Polynesian Village Resort officially reopens.
In the meantime, we’ve been checking out all the other reopenings at the resort, including Oasis Bar and Grill, ‘Ohana (for breakfast AND dinner), and Kona Island (did someone say candied bacon?). But we’ve been impatiently waiting for a chance to check out the new Moana-themed rooms at the hotel.
And today is the day! We’re spending the night in one of the new rooms at the Polynesian, and we can’t wait to show you around.
The fun new Moana details actually start before you even get inside the room!
There are new patterns in the hallways on the carpet…
…the artwork…
…and all around! We even spotted a few hidden characters.
We were able to enter our room using the My Disney Experience app. If you’re logged into the app and your reservation is linked, you can use it to unlock your door when it’s time to check-in. What a handy feature!
And once we stepped inside, we were NOT disappointed.

These rooms are beautiful and there’s so much to see!
What a BIG transformation this is! New furniture, new artwork, and a theme that we’re quickly falling in love with — we think we’re going to really enjoy our visit here. There are lots of different textures, patterns, and details. Some of which you kind of have to hunt for, so let’s get started!
Let’s start with the bed. Here, we’ve got some brand-new bedding with patterns and textures to fit the Polynesian look.
Disney really thinks of all the details!
The pillows fit right in as well and add a nice pop of color. We could totally see ourselves walking in here after a long day and just plopping on this bed.
The nightstands have plenty of outlets, light controls, and the middle table is home to the phone and some important hotel room information.
And we can’t forget about the lighting! We love the pattern it has going on. Just look at those little waves.
Moving on to the main seating area of the room, we’ve got this super colorful couch!
It even has Moana-themed pillows!
With the coordinating side table and the massive accent wall, this is the perfect spot for an Insta-worthy photo op.
And speaking of the accent wall, it has some really cool details of its own. Scenes and patterns from the film…
…fan-favorite characters…
…and even a hidden Mickey. (A Disney resort room wouldn’t be complete without one!)
There’s also a seating area for one on the opposite wall.
How interesting are these accent tables?
Disney really went deep in the details with the patterns and textures here. The touches are evident in the furniture…
…the artwork…
…and even the curtains.
The bathroom is just as spectacular. Don’t believe us? Watch our video!

Here, you’ll find an updated shower with its own hidden details.
Don’t use up all the hot water while you’re admiring the handiwork! 😉
The sink area has also been fixed up. There are double sinks, so two people can get ready at once.
You’ll find ample storage, both under the sink…
…and in the room with the toilet and shower.
This is definitely one of the nicer resort room bathrooms we’ve seen!
Back in the main living area, you’ll be glad to know that the room has a coffee maker. (And Hei Hei is standing by to say hello!)
There’s also a closet to store all your hanging clothes. It’s fairly large for a hotel room!
And a mini-fridge will help keep your snacks and beverages cold throughout your stay.
And last but not least, the room comes with a lovely balcony area. Depending on which floor you’re on, it may be a patio.
Our room had a great view! We could stay here all day long.

So far, we’re very impressed with these accommodations. The colors are vibrant and make us feel like we have stepped into a beachy getaway. We’ll make sure to keep you updated as we stay the night and let you know of anything else that’s important about this room.
And that’s what the new Moana rooms look like at Disney’s Polynesian Village Resort. As always, stay tuned to DFB for all the latest Disney news! Disney is moving forward with adding intellectual properties to more Disney World hotels. For example, The Contemporary is receiving an Incredibles theme and Citricos at Disney’s Grand Floridian has a new Mary Poppins theme. What do you think of these changes? Are you for or against them? Let us know where you stand on the hot debate!

I love this room decor. The colors, the art work, the linens, wow! I really think we need to change our reservations and get one of these rooms. Thanks for the tour.
John says
Are ALL the rooms being updated to the Moana theme?
Matt Lucas says
Looks so nice. Going in mid August. Can’t wait to stay at the Poly. Come on monorail!!
Bill says
Are all of the refurbished rooms at The Polynesian Resort like this?
tammra daugherty says
The Moana makeover shows that IP and color can be incorporated in a fun, tasteful manner. It’s a refreshing change from the current trend towards bland rooms that could be in any hotel, anywhere in the world.
Carole Ezekiel says
I’ve never stayed there before, but weren’t all the studios just 1 queen bed before? Now there are 2 beds in each room?
Ken says
Sorry, not overly impressed. The wall decor is very loud if you ask me. The bathroom is the best part of the room, otherwise it is just a high priced hotel room. Nothing special to me. I wonder, are the DVC rooms undergoing the same transformation…?
GoGamecocks says
This room is so fun, and that bathroom is just WOW!!! Can’t wait for our trip in late January 2022! Thanks for the wonderful pictures and videos!!! Love your blog!
Laura says
The accent tables resemble the Polynesian gourds, or ipu, from the movie. They are used as musical instruments.
PAlterBoy says
This is one of the best re-theming/upgrading of rooms I’ve seen Disney do in a long time! I can’t wait to get the chance to stay there!
Janet says
Excellent writeup and photos. Thank you for sharing them. As to how I feel about the new room decor, it looks lovely in your photos and the colors look bright & cheerful. I hope to experience the “new” Polynesian rooms on a future WDW vacation.
DFB Sarah says
Carole, we checked out a standard room, not a Studio. Let me know if I can further clarify.
DFB Sarah says
Bill, that is what Disney has said, yes.
DFB Sarah says
John, at this point, the regular rooms are the refurbished ones. Disney has not announced a refurbishment of DVC rooms.
Nicole says
This is much better than the Contemporary update. Although I love the Incredibles movies I’m not a fan of how Disney is using them in the rooms. Something more subtle like this would be better
Margaret Beyer says
Not a fan of the movie so I dont think I would book a special room but the art work is very cool.
Nicole says
LOVE LOVE LOVE that you can put suitcases under the bed, at least it looks that way. Can you?
The rooms are much brighter then before. I like that.
Dan says
That extra shower wand that’ll make bathing kids 1000 times easier has me sold. Sign me up! I’m surprised more Disney hotel rooms don’t have that
Jessica Bouchard says
The bathroom is nice but the room itself is not worth the expensive cost to stay there. Sorry Disney
Jessica Bouchard says
Sorry but not impressed. For the amount that they charge to stay there i expect more.
Bellamouse says
I think the theming is awesome but for me, the amenities are lacking for the price point. Tiny fridge, tiny space, etc. For big money I want big amenities. But the theming really is nice! N
Chris B says
Would have been a nice view if the tree wasnt blocking it.
Scott Calvin says
I don’t understand why all the comments bashed the contemporary makeover but find this one okay. Everyone wanted the classic look back but don’t want it on the poly? I always loved the tiki and poly feel with the dark woods. This looks like complete garbage. We drop 10 grand there every year at spring break and not seeing it for this. Maybe I’ll go stay at galactic cruiser. LOL.

Been going to the Polynesian since 1974! Haven’t been in a while . Room refurbishment looks wonderful. Taking our grand daughter this February 2023. So looking forward to it. It was always our happy place so many wonderful memories. If you can believe it when we first started going our boys were babies and the rooms Cost $75 a night on the lagoon.. First floor Tonga. You could even swim in the Lagoon. Those were the Days when DISNEY’s Magic touched your very soul. I get goosebumps just remembering.
