Oh, Disney…you really know how to pull us in!
The company knows how to play with our emotions. Disney can make us cry nostalgia-induced tears by playing “When You Wish Upon a Star” in a TV commercial, or they can make us almost pass out from excitement when they announce dozens of new Disney+ shows at once. We thought something similar was going to happen yesterday when Disney promoted a livestream on Twitter for an event. We, of course, tuned in, because usually, we get some big announcements from these sort of things. But, that is NOT what happened, not even close.
We tuned in to the livestream on Twitter, which started with a video of a literal stream, like the kind with water in the woods. The caption said “Soon you will meet The Streamer. Until then, enjoy this livestream of a stream.” Which is kind of a funny pun…

…but that’s ALL we saw for 3 HOURS. That’s right, Disney’s big livestream event was just a video of a stream. It wasn’t even different shots of the stream or anything — just the same camera angle the whole time. Why, Disney, why? It was decent white noise to have on in the background though.
Hello, @Twitter. I'm more of a streamer than a tweeter but here goes nothin…

Then finally, after 3 HOURS, Disney tweeted a video of “The Streamer” who is *spoiler alert* Dave Bautista in a wig. You probably know him as Drax — the invisible blue guy from Guardians of the Galaxy.
The video was just a bunch of different clips of The Streamer watching different shows on Disney+, Hulu, and ESPN+ from his canoe and his campsite in the woods. It was funny, but…we’re not too sure it was 3-hour wait funny! We have seen similar tactics from Universal for things like Halloween Horror Nights. So, the concept of a long video to build up anticipation is not new at all. BUT, the Universal marketing tactics tend to end with an announcement.

Instead, the Streamer was promoting the Disney Bundle, which is Disney+, Hulu, and ESPN+ for $13.99 a month. But that’s already been a thing for a WHILE. It was kind of funny and genious. And not gonna lie, it was also a little annoying and a waste of time.
But hey, Disney knew how to pull people in. TheStreamer Twitter is already verified and has over 12 thousand followers. Oh, and we got to see some cute emojis.
We really want to know your thoughts!! Did you tune in? If so, for how long did you watch the never-ending stream? How did you walk away feeling? Let us know!!!
