After canceling its previous program earlier this year, Disneyland Resort has finally released information on its new annual passes!
The new program is called Magic Key and comes in four tiers, each with different prices and benefits. It will launch on August 25th, 2021, and there’s a lot that you need to know before you buy a pass for yourself. So today, we’re sharing the little (but important!) details that you may have missed!
Some Things Are Only for California Residents
The Imagine Key, which is the cheapest tier of the bunch at $399, is only available for residents of Southern California. It still has the same merchandise and food/beverage discount of 10% as the Enchant and Believe Keys, but you’ll only be able to book 2 days of theme park reservations with this level.
Also, the Magic Key payment plan is only available for Southern California residents (living in zip codes 90000-96199). The payment plan offers the chance to do a one-time down payment followed by 12 months of payments based on your remaining balance. After a $179 down payment, the Dream Key is $102/month, the Believe Key is $65/month, the Enchant Key is $40/month, and the Imagine Key is $19/month.
The First to Purchase Get a Welcome Package
If you purchase your Magic Key within the first 66 days that they’re sold, you’ll get a free welcome package! This is in honor of the 66th Anniversary of Disneyland Resort.
The package includes items like a premium branded pin, celebratory button, magnet, and more. What a special gift!
There Are Some Brand-New Perks!
And besides the welcome package and the typical discounts, there are some new perks for Magic Key holders. Disney notes that key holders “may also be able to enjoy special benefits such as a dedicated dining experience and custom menu items at the Magic Key terrace, special offerings at our festivals just for Magic Key holders, a Magic Key holder celebration month, plus other unique surprises!”
And starting on September 1st, those with a Magic Key can head to Starcade in Tomorrowland for an exclusive, limited-time hangout. Here, you’ll find access to charging stations, a special photo opportunity, and more.
It’s Getting Its Own Section on the Disneyland App
With the addition of Magic Key, the Disneyland app is getting an upgrade! The new Magic Key portal is coming soon so that Disney can more deeply engage with its community of Magic Key holders.
Here, guests will be able to manage their passes, access an interactive admission calendar, and book their theme park reservations. It sounds like this is going to be a great planning tool for your next visit!
There Are Quite a Few Blockout Dates!
And finally, the most important thing you should note if you’re interested in buying a pass other than the Dream Key is that there are quite a few blockout dates. For the Believe Key, there are 48 blockout dates between the time that the pass goes on sale August 25th and September of 2022.
For the next category, the Enchant Key, there are a total of 151 blockout dates. That’s including all of July, most of December and June, plus large chunks of November, January, April, and August.
But things are REALLY blocked out for the “cheap” pass, the Imagine Key. 235 dates are blocked out, which is over half of the year! We know that this is the cheapest option, but WOW. The pass is $399 and you’ll be paying that price to only visit on select weekdays in the “off” months.
If you’re planning on buying a Magic Key, make sure to do your research ahead of time, because some of this stuff is a BIG DEAL! We’ll continue covering all the details and important information as it’s released, so stay tuned to DFB.

Have you ever had an annual pass to a Disney park?
OHT says
Doing away with Free Parking from the current passholder plans, is a big and expensive loss.
Yes we’ll have to reserve, ok we can deal with that – just takes a little planning. However, $25 (currently) for every trip, on all but the most expensive new option, that can add up for the local passholders that frequent the park often.
It isn’t unheard of for the local folks to go 3 or 4 times month on their local Passholder plans, which now translates into a $900 to $1200 annual expense – above the new plan. Also I notice that a lot of Passholders show up to the park after a work day, so now they’ll have to pay the full parking cost for perhaps a few hours.
I would hope that Disney reconsider this, as someone else wrote elsewhere, they are really pricing out the middle class with these changes.

Disneyland is suppose to be the happiest place on earth! They make millions and still can’t refund ! Especially on situations that were totally out of my control! This to me is ridiculous and sad! We will no longer be visiting Disneyland, California !!!!

Though the dream Key does not have any block out dated, why then does the Dream key have block out dates when making park reservations?
