Are you ready for Disney World’s 50th Anniversary?

The Most Magical Place on Earth celebrates HALF A CENTURY on October 1st and there are lots of ways to celebrate. There will be a new fireworks show and cavalcade in Magic Kingdom, Remy’s Ratatouille Adventure will finally open, a new daytime show is coming to Animal Kingdom, 9 more Food and Wine Festival booths are opening in EPCOT, and SO MUCH MORE! We’re especially looking forward to the new decorations on Cinderella Castle, including the lights that will turn all 4 park icons into “Beacons of Magic.” And now, we’ve got our FIRST GLIMPSE of the new lighting on Spaceship Earth!

We were able to catch a glimpse of Spaceship Earth from Disney’s Coronado Springs Resort last night when, after midnight, Spaceship Earth lit up VERY BRIGHTLY.

Look at it in the distance!

Look, Disney said Spaceship Earth would be a “Beacon of Magic” but we weren’t expecting the new lighting to be SO dramatic. We saw some blue lights…

So bright it’s making our camera confused!!

…and some purple ones, too!

We can’t wait to see you in the park!

Disney says the new lights shine across the reflective panels on Spaceship Earth. They then connect to look like a starry night sky, and we can totally see what they mean!

It does kind of look like stars!

And, it is very dynamic! As we watched, we saw the colors change, the lights swirl, and even a rain effect at one point! You can watch it in action right here!

And this transformation of Spaceship Earth is actually PERMANENT! Disney confirmed that the lights will stay after the 50th anniversary celebrations. We can’t WAIT to see the new lighting up close! As always, stay tuned to DFB for all the latest Disney World updates!
