There is a lot going on at EPCOT!
The park is undergoing a huge transformation that includes new restaurants, rides, stores, and attractions. Part of the transformation includes a new nighttime fireworks show called Harmonious. We’ve seen the barges in the World Showcase Lagoon over the past few months and we recently got a first look at the show! And now, we have details about the music for Harmonious!
The soundtrack for Harmonious was produced remotely with more than 100 separate recording sessions in 9 different countries and 5 states. Nearly 240 musicians, artists, composers, arrangers, cultural consultants, and vocalists contributed to the show!
The show will use interpretations of familiar Disney songs that are performed in more than a dozen languages by singers from around the world! Some of these singers you might know, while others are rising stars!
Luis Fonsi, the Puerto Rican artist who has made hits like “Despacito” joins Mexican singer-songwriter Joy for versions of the songs from Coco and Saludos Amigos! An arrangement of “Dig a Little Deeper” from The Princess and the Frog was done by vocalist Bryson Camper and legendary Gospel artists Karen Clark Sheard and Kierra Sheard. And musical selections from Mulan, The Jungle Book, and Aladdin were created by the vocal talents of Wang Liuqi, Hollie Hammel, Aditya Rao, Gaayatri Kaundinya, Jorgie Shkara, and Sanaa Marahati.
The Ndlovu Youth Choir from Johannesburg, South Africa sings on a compilation of songs from The Lion King, performed in both English and Zulu. French pop singer Damien Sargue has a rendition of “Out There” from The Hunchback of Notre Dame and the music of Disney and Pixar’s Brave gets a Celtic kick from the dueling violins of Grammy and Emmy-nominated violinist Máiréad Nesbitt and platinum-selling electronic artist and violinist Lindsey Stirling.
Harmonious will open with a medley of “How Far I’ll Go” from Moana and “Go the Distance” from Hercules, performed by American Idol finalist and three-time Grammy nominee Danny Gokey and vocalists Elisha Garrett and Ninet Tayeb. Disney says the show will later build to a finale that brings together everyone around World Showcase and from around the world, as many of the musical artists come together to perform a poignant and powerful song, bringing Harmonious to an emotional close.
We also will hear part of the new EPCOT anthem, composed by Pinar Toprak. All of the music was brought together for the show by arranger Mark Hammond and Walt Disney Imagineering Senior Music Producer and Creative Director Yaron Spiwak. Disney says the ensemble is a magnificent cultural symphony unlike anything heard before. Take a look at the behind the scenes of the creation of the music below:
