Many things have been changing at Disney World in the recent months.
We’ve seen a new design completed for Cinderella Castle, FastPass+ is no longer available, Extended Evening Hours are about to be available for select Disney hotel guests, and masks are back to being required indoors for everyone. One thing that changed last year was Disney no longer giving you free MagicBands if you were staying at a Disney hotel. And now, there is another group of guests who will also no longer receive the perk.
As of today, August 16th, Walt Disney World Annual Passholders will no longer be receiving complimentary MagicBands with annual pass purchases and renewals.
Disney cited the MagicMobile service as to why they will no longer be offering the complimentary MagicBands. MagicMobile was introduced in March of 2021 as an easier, more contactless way to enter into the parks using your phone.
So, Annual Passholders can use Disney MagicMobile service, current MagicBands linked to their Disney account, newly purchased MagicBands (which are discounted for Annual Passholders), or their annual pass cards to get into the parks.

Boy, the selection for discounted MagicBands for resort guests is half what it used to be just months ago, too. Maybe they’re in the process of transitioning from their 2021 to 2022 line, but it sure seems like they are moving away from MagicBands altogether.
