Disney Genie+ is a new paid service coming soon to Disney World and Disneyland. There’s a lot to unpack with this new Fastpass+ replacement, and we still have a lot of questions about how everything will work!
One thing we do know is that guests who want to use the Lightning Lane will have to pay for select attractions separately, like the Seven Dwarfs Mine Train, by making Individual Attraction Selections. If you’ve been to Disneyland Paris recently, you might notice some similarities in the new Individual Attraction Selection process — let’s break it down!
Put simply: some of the more popular attractions in Disney World, like Star Wars: Rise of the Resistance and the upcoming Remy’s Ratatouille Adventure, will soon cost extra if guests want to use the Lightning Lane (aka the old Fastpass line). Note: This will impact Disneyland Resort too!
With this extra cost will come surge pricing, where the price of each attraction will vary depending on the time and day. Meaning, you might see higher prices when the parks are busy or on the holidays! If you’ve ever taken an Uber or Lyft, you might be familiar with the concept of surge pricing. It’s all about supply and demand, baby!
As we mentioned earlier, a version of this idea is already playing out in Disneyland Paris. The Paris version, called the Disneyland Paris Disney Premier Access program, allows guests to purchase Premier Access (FastPasses) for between €8 to €15 per person, per attraction, which is about $9 to $18. We don’t know what the prices will be like in Disney World yet, but the Premier Access prices could be a good indicator.
Keep in mind that the Individual Attraction Selection system will give guests a choice of 2 attractions per person per day. We still don’t have a full list of all the attractions that will utilize the Individual Attraction Selection program, but Disney has already confirmed that Seven Dwarfs Mine Train at Magic Kingdom, Radiator Springs Racers in Disney California Adventure Park, WEB SLINGERS: A Spider-Man Adventure at Disney California Adventure Park, Star Wars: Rise of the Resistance, and Remy’s Ratatouille Adventure will be part of the new system.
We are also waiting to find out if the Individual Attraction Selection attraction prices will vary depending on the ride, as is the case at Disneyland Paris. You will want to keep this new idea of surge pricing in mind, especially if you are looking to visit around the holidays or other busy times of the year
We’ll be sure to share any additional information we learn about Disney Genie, Disney Genie+, and even Individual Attraction Selection, be sure to check back with us and read some of our other posts!

Pete says
It will be intresting to see how fast surge prices go up once they start getting their data on who’s paying. 6 months from now I suspect that the prices will stay higher than what they start out with even on similar days ride attendance.
Mark Schmidt says
Money Pit USA
Absolutely crazy.
Disney has lost touch with average family who made them what they are.
Walt Disney never intended his dream to become the playground of the rich.
Sarah says
This is horrendous. The regular park tickets cost so much and now you have to pay per ride? Will there still be a standby line for these rides? (Mine Train, ratatouille etc)?
DFB Sarah says
Sarah, when Individual Attraction Selections begin with Disney Genie, some IAS will have Standby (Seven Dwarfs Mine Train, for example, is expected to keep its Standby line), while others are already confirmed to have Virtual Queue and no Standby (Rise of the Resistance, Remy’s Ratatouille Adventure).
William Wells says
Man, they have just sucked all the fun out of WDW. Nevermind the ridiculously high park and resort prices, now it has gotten so complicated that it seems easier (and cheaper) to book a flight on SpaceX.
Biff says
This is disgusting. Perhaps we should go back to free entry and have a virtual ticket book?
Laura says
This is beyond crazy I guess they think we are a atm just keep charging us more and more greedy Disney I would think with pass going way up and taking away fast pass and pictures now having to pay for genie pass now another fee enough already
GREEDY
Diane Ramos says
This is all so sad.
Greg Dressman says
Disney is pricing away the repeat customer. Some people may pay this for the one time trip of a lifetime. But repeat guests will pass hard. It’s not worth it anymore.
Tink says
It’s ridiculous for Disney to compare Parks. One of our sons lives and works in Ireland where he is paid in Euros. 15 Euros is nothing to them there. It is insane that they are doing this same here in the US. It’s like comparing apples to oranges. This would never happen if Walt was alive.
John Hoffman Jr says
The “Special” is now gone. While Disney is and was the most expensive park around, many items were included. Not the case anymore. Did you hear that Sea World outvoted Disney? This type of result will continue to happen until the “Special” is returned to the park. We have been planing a trip after Thanksgiving and we are not as excited to go to the park s our previous 20 plus trips. Most likely there will be a shift in my future vacation plans, away from Disney.
Sherry says
When will Genie start?
John says
Disney is really trying to insure I don’t leave the Parks on the last day with one penny in my pocket. Prior to covid, we were planning a return trip to WDW, but with price increases galore, the demise of the Magical Express, and now surge pricing for “select” days and rides, they are pricing themselves out of the market. It is often cheaper to find air, hotel, and transportation to Greece, Ireland, Spain, France, and the U.K. I think we’ll go across the pond for two weeks rather thaan allow Disney to gouge me for every last penny.
Ronald says
Disney, is there anything you would not do to separate your guests from their money.
Diane says
I agree. This is outrageous;!people already pay a lot to get into
The parks and now they want more money just for a shorter line? A family of 4 average people ( not wealthy or well off) can’t do that. It’s a strain to
Pay the park tickets, lodging, food and souvenirs. Walt Disney certainly did not want a park only for the rich elite. He’s probably spinning in his grave.
SML says
This just gets sadder and sadder! There is no magic at Disney anymore. We have cancelled our 12 day family trip. It’s just too ridiculous to even deal with. You can’t have a relaxing, well planned vacation at the “Happiest Place on Earth” because it no longer exists. Disney has become the greediest place on Earth as far as we are concerned. We’re booking at Universal!
K. Sullivan says
Disney is openly admitting they are price gouging. I guess they feel that no matter how they treat people, people will just buy into it because it’s Disney and like no place else. Maybe but no matter how much I like a ride I’m not going to pay extra.
DFB Sarah says
Sherry, Disney is only saying fall 2021, and we will update when they release a date.
William Wells says
The only way this is going to change is when attendance drops off significantly. When people finally say “That’s enough”. It’s bad enough that they are gouging us but then when a Disney spokesperson comes on and tells us that these price increases are designed to enhance and improve the guest experience is simply not true. I suppose the upcharges for magic bands, resort parking and fast passes were designed to enhance and improve the guest experience. Bob Chapek has to go.
William Wells says
Say it with me now! DONE WITH DISNEY! DONE WITH DISNEY! DONE WITH DISNEY!
Sharon says
Never thought I’d say this , but I’m actually glad we sold our DVC. There is something to be said about spontaneity and the Magic in the past! That does not exist anymore. We used to go 3/4 times a year but now it costs the same for one trip as it did for 4. The pre- planning it requires now is like a full – time job ! Very disappointing. Like many guests, we started going in 1971 , and have taken 4 generations of our family. Will be a very different scenario going forward for this gang.
Don says
My wife worked for Disney (Disneyland) with some of the Legends, Jack Lindquist, Ken Anderson, Wally Boag, Ron Dominguez, James Cora and most importantly Van France. Van, with Walt, started the Disney University to educate cast members about true customer (guest) service and of course “pixie dust.” Mr. Chapek has burned the books, I suppose because he didn’t recognize any of the above mentioned names. Money is the Magic and it’s all for top management and large stockholders. Disney is dead, in more ways that one.
pattie says
And yes William wells my family says done with Disney done with Disney and done with Disney !!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
Karen says
Entry tickets cost enough as it is, I understand every company has suffered. But this is wrong, charging for fast passes when you’ve already paid a fortune.
I feel sorry for families who are on a budget. Come on Disney sort yourselves out.
Gary says
Wow Cheapek from the above comments it looks like you just got your butt kicked. My wife and I have been doing this for 45 years we haven’t been back in 2 1/2 years pre-pandemic. All the cast members I know which was over 20 are all gone. Walt would never do this. They all quit ,left saw the writing on the wall and left that place because they knew what this guy was going to do they hit it dead on right on the head of the nail. Like the guy said above done with Disney done with Disney done with Disney. Universals going to get our money and then were going to Israel. I do believe those parks are going to be empty a lot yeah priced it out of middle class families. I can go to the beautiful country of Israel and the holy lands for a third of what it cost to stay on property buy tickets and food and everything else Including el al airfare including your stupid lightning Lane crap. And yes I spelled your name right at the beginning of this cheapek . Been quiet for a while on this thread this will probably be moderated right out of there but I don’t care at least your moderator Will have to read it and maybe you AJ. And I’m gonna start going to a lot more NHRA events. This is for the ultra rich only club now are you going to have some kind of coupon day or something bye-bye.Just unbelievable I can’t wrap my head around all that. PS I’ve also wrote letters to Disney all I got was crickets everyone. Can you hear them.
Dan says
Paid fast pass is awesome, literally the best thing to have come out of the new “post-covid” changes. Paid fast pass means less people using it, which means two things, if you pay for it you ride quick, but most importantly you’re not say waiting in the standby lane for all those people in the fast pass lane to get on board before you. Got to love a shorter queue
Mark says
When will the new pick pocket plus pass go on sale
DFB Sarah says
Mark, the Individual Attraction Selections don’t yet have a start date.
William Wells says
There have been biographies written about Walt Disney, Roy Disney, Michael Isner, Bob Iger all praising, to various degrees their contributions and changes to WDW and Disney parks in general, not all good not all bad. When Chapek’s biography comes out (and I’m sure his ego will demand it) it should be subtitled “The man who ruined Disney” or “How to suck the fun and life out of something by fixing things that ain’t broke”
pattie says
Disney has seen the last of us nothing but pure greed everyone should quit going there and that is the only way it will stop as long as people keep going there it will only keep getting more costly then the greedy person m charge of this and the big stock holders can hear crickets n stead the sound of money the pixie dust and the magic is gone forever and Disney world is no longer the happiest place on earth
Ronald says
I’m so sad to see The Magical Express eliminated. Sarah, can Disney still use a system where the luggage is still picked up by Disney at the airport and brought to the hotel and picked up from the hotel and brought back to the airport at the end of our vacation. The bus is gone but the pain of handling our own luggage is gone also. Sarah can Disney do this?
DFB Sarah says
Ronald, it’s my understanding that Disney contracted out for the luggage handling, but they’ve not announced that this service will return. If they do, we’ll update ASAP.
Wendi Hicks says
Wow. We’re not rich, but upper middle class and all these price increases will make Disneyland an every 3 or 4 year trip instead of yearly for my family. I’m positive we could scrape together the money to go every year, but with these changes happening pretty sure we’re going to take a hard pass and go elsewhere. A trip to Hawaii is now a lower cost option than Disney.
Bobbie Denise Floyd says
Yep Disney finally priced themselves out of our family budget. Was gonna take the grandchildren but now we are going to Universal instead. Bring back the good old days where you bought a hopper pass then had the option of splurging on fast passes if you didnt want to stand in line (and it is splurging for a middle income family of 4) Not to mention the price of hotel, parking, food, etc etc. They have gotten greedy folks and it is a shame. May not be “Disney” but there are too many other theme parks out there that we will be going to until they stop the madness and return to being customer friendly.
Ryan Sickles says
Demand based pricing is something that the parks were even looking at 20+ years ago (Universal was studying it in the 2000’s). It’s just that we’ve come to a point of supply and demand where it’s now practical for business. There’s no incentive for static pricing when the operators are hitting capacity regularly in peak season and driving down guest satisfaction.
The reality is people will pay, and people are paying…maybe some of us are even guilty of it. If you want prices to change, then stop going to Disney. It’s really that simple.
Angelina Slane says
Moved our family holiday from last year to 2022 due to covid and I am really disillusioned by the whole thing. Its costing us a small fortune to stay at Disney and in 18 months I have seen our original Disney dream stay turn into a basic room where every perk has now been taken away. So not looking forward to overpacked theme parks, queuing all day to go on rides or pay even more to cut waiting times on excessive queues. What I really want to do it just cancel it all to avoid one hell of a Disney disappointment for my kids, never mind me.
